Question: Would disc golfers be willing to donate used but still usable discs, bags, etc. for a charity?

Hello, wanted to take an informal poll here and see if someone was to set up a legit, fully documented charity would disc golfers be willing to donate older discs, bags, etc. to the charity instead of selling them on ebay, etc.? 

My thinking is that in one year,  I have collected around 80 discs and three bags so far...if I can do that in one year than other golfers must have loads of extra equipment. 

If we could pool together our extra, unused gear and get it out to schools, boys and girls clubs, etc. I am thinking it could be a positive step in growing the sport.

Sounds like a great idea. Many of us do that in small ways locally with newer players, giving them old discs and stuff. An organized effort could help new players who otherwise could not afford to start playing.

By setting up a "legit, fully documented charity" you are adding expense where it's not needed. IMO, the best way to do this is for everyone to do it locally.

in the past two weeks i have given 3 discs away 2 were birthday presents , 1 a going away gift . i always carry extra discs that i don't use any more to lend or give away .

I don't even want to know the number of disc I have given away over the last 4 years. I always carry extra disc for new players, kids, or just random strangers who walk up asking what I'm doing. If you start something just let me know and I will be happy to send some disc Your way.

I too give old disc's away to new players, if you get something going I'll throw in some strays myself.

Eric definitely set the example for me when it comes to giving away discs. We had a small local glow round tournament here a couple of years ago, and he comes up from Louisiana and donates all kinds of star plastic with some of the coolest dye jobs I have ever seen for CTP's and ring of fire prizes. There is a member of EDGE (Effingham Disc Golf Evangelists) that collects used discs to donate to the youngsters in Effingham, IL - I think his name is Larry.

I think many of us do a great job on the individual level to share our discs, etc. But, my thinking is if we pooled our resources, we might be able to be more intentional, more targeted in our approach...love hearing these stories and EDGE sounds amazing... http://effinghamdiscgolf.weebly.com/the-edge.html ...

Good idea,however one must/have to approach the proper/correct school admin. in able to have such items donated I believe.Club or person would need to acquire enough of said equipment in order to donate all @ once so that there is enough to get things rolling.Then the individual or sets can be donated/used and not "lost" in some back equipment room/closet.

Many dg clubs/members/players already have as stated in the previous posts.Keep the discs "rolling" out to newer players so the sport continues onward.locally as mentioned by Jay Dub is still the best way,my 2 cents.

Perhaps with the recent Storms  we can somehow locally set up a "charitable event/tourney" to help those that have been devasted/needing assistance.Just another idea towards the goodness in all that we do possess.
