So, still new to the sport...soaking up all the help, advice I can get. Driving is still the most challenging part of the game for me and I am sure many others that are new.
So, let's try this approach to disc golf education - what are your most simple tips and tricks for getting a flatter release on a drive?

before every drive, I hold the disc out at arms length in the direction I want to throw, I hold it flat and settle it flat in my stance. then I make sure I maintain that throughout my step and whip.. the routine helps promote muscle memory.
Go to any spot you can find where you can fully release your arm like you are about to launch a big drive but never let go of the disc. Then hold you disc nice and flat. At first practice going slow and watch the disc the entire time and making sure its flat. Once you get used to keeping the disc flat. Then start looking straight ahead like you would on a normal drive but look at the disc when your arm is fully extended making sure its still flat. Once you get it to be flat a few times start increasing your arm speed and snap. Ultimately if you have enough room you can practice your entire driving routine and keeping the disc flat. This creates muscle memory and it will be second nature when you go to drive for real. Also before your about to play around practice this little routine on the tee pad. Its a great way to practice your form without having to walk around and pick up your discs.
Youtube has a video on drives. The guy talks about staying on the line. So, I work on what he said and cut back on the power of my throw. I be dam, it went a whole lot straighter and a little further. Ok, so watch some youtube and talk to the gals and guys here and at your local course. OR, even go to one of the big tourament and talk to a Pro.
throw the disc on a downward angle. Start from the neck and finish at the soloplexis.
Find and open field to throw on, football field works best as you can measure you distance easy. This will help you develop the proper drive, then you can unleash it on the course.
One of things I learned from a couple of our local pro's was to keep my wrist cocked all the way through the release, this really helped me flatten out my drives.

First of all you need to work on your arm speed. Any disc can be thown flat for a least alittle while. The flight of the disc will depend on the stability. All disc vary in stability obviously, this is where arm speed comes into play. When throwing a disc backhand, a disc that is less stable will be easier to throw flat. This means that for me because i am right handed when i throw for example a firebird which is considered very stable/overstable the disc when thrown back hand will fight to the ground turning hard left in doing so. Conversly, a disc that is considered understable let us use the optimizer will want to turn right before it comes back left. This is called flip. You need to go out to an open field and just throw. Don't just going to the course this will not help you. Learn to work your discs then you can go play a round of golf and work the course.
