SSS Magic variety

I am looking for a good SSS magic for the winter.  During the summer I use Organic Magics and Wizards for putting, but they are too stiff in the winter. 

I recently traded some discs with someone who had two SSS Wizards.  One was perfectly soft, and grippy in below freezing temps, while another one was still very stiff.  I would love to just order an SSS magic online, but I would like to know how it feels first so I don't get a stiffer SSS.  Everything on eBay says the grippy-ness is 2-3 so that does not really tell me much.  Does anyone know a specific trick, like if certain colors are different?

My problem is just that.  I can get them everywhere, but I feel like the softness is not consistent between all of the SSS's, and I want a REALLY soft one for below freezing temps.  Do you know any trick to knowing generally how soft the disc will be through color, stamp, or weight for Gateway?

 

Also, you listing is titled as SSS, but at the bottom of the item info it says SS.

I would suggest actually holding the disc in your hand before buying if possible.  I putt with S to SSS Magics/Wizards, and plastic is inconsistent as far as softness.  You are gambling if you buy one without holding it first.  I recently bought a SSS Magic online and the seam where the top and bottom pieces are fused together was off center. 

 

If you are looking for something really soft for winter that feels/flies almost identical to a magic, I would suggest the Blunt Gumbputt.  You can be certain that it will be soft, even without holding it first.  I hated it at first, and it sat in my trunk for 2 years.  I found that it is very similar to the Magic after practicing with about 20 putters.  Only downside is when its really windy it tends to float a little.  I suggest getting at least a 173 gram.

The SSS plastic's like any plastic can change a little from disc to disc, but for the most part pretty close. They get softer the more they are used but when new most are not soft as in bendy.... Gateways s , ss , sss has more to do with the softness of the grip then how bendy it is.

 

If you are looking for really soft there is always the Gumputt from DGA

Your best bet would be to call up Dave McCormack at Gateway Disc Sports.  He is understanding of everyone's preferences and carries a ton of different varieties at all times.  He personally has contact with every run of discs that are produced, and he knows exactly were each run falls in line compared to the other runs.  He will be more than willing to work with you and help you get that perfect putter.  If the conversation goes well you might even get a discount of some variety!  He is usually at the shop on a daily basis until around 5 or 6 PM.  Give it a shot!

on the note of Gateway discs, I really love the evolution plastic.  I don't have the money to just try a bunch of new discs, but I might be replacing my Innova, and Discraft when I get the chance.
