The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

To start off, I throw RHBH. Ever since I started playing this game. I've always have had problems with my tailwind shots. As much and as hard as I try to keep the nose down. I still end up with a nose up flight. However, when I do get a nose down release. More often than not, I only get the disc up about 10 to15 feet at best. So there goes my wind advantage. Pre release, I make sure my hand/ grip is with the wrist bent down as much as possible. Still no luck. Now my disc sellection is one of these three. 165g Valk, 170g Sidewinder, and or a 170 Vision.

So aside from the standard X step and release. Do you alter, add, or do something different when you throw a tailwind shot?

Thanks and Peace!

throw a high anhyzer line. it won't come flip as hard because it is downwind, but it also drops because of that so you need to account by throwing it higher. your discs are perfect downwind discs
With the way our redesigned course is laid out I haven't thrown a tailwind shot in over a year! Seriously. I don't really remember what I used to do in a tailwind!
I want to play that course! For some reason. I get way more distance into a headwind. I think I mentioned my crazy drive (for me) with my Nuke. That the first time I've ever came close to 400' and that was one nasty headwind I threw it into, but it just kept going and going...
Okay, I realized I lied. There are some tailwind shots, but I don't recall ever DRIVING with a tailwind in that time period. The longest tailwind shot I recall is 305'. You're going to love this, but often in a tailwind I'm reaching for the Roc. Sure I think you can get a little more if you hit the angle right with a lighter understable driver, but you can get squirrely results. Mids fly exceptionally far with a tailwind and for me are easier to control. So try reaching for the understable mid next time and compare the distance you get with that vs. your vision. Do you have a Glide? That disc is INCREDIBLE downwind.
If you can get a little bit of left to right wind with that tailwind then the anny with a bit of height is perfect. Just throw it smooth and it will sail. If it's straight tail then just remember that it will knock the disc down and also it will cause the disc to fly more overstable. Sometimes a nice smooth hyzer will do well in this situation. Keep it flat and throw something slightly overstable.
SKY Anhyzer with your Vision Rescue!!! lots of snap of course!!
What is this thing you call "snap?" lol!
Lighter Disc's Fly great with a Tailwind !!!
Have you tried a Road Runner?! I started out with the Valk, then threw the Sidewinder for a few years, now its the Champ RR for that shot all day. Prob the most fun disc to throw in my bag.
At what height is your pull? Chest high? Waist high? I only ask because you mentioned that the disc stays too low (for a tailwind) when you get the nose angle right. Perhaps you need to keep that nose down wrist position and start your reach-back more toward waist level so that your arm is actually rising and setting a slightly more upward trajectory while still remaining nose down per your wrist position. It would probably take only a small adjustment...don't overdo it. Just a thought. It's a bit of a mystery without watching your throw.
Big anhyzer and don't cock ur wrist pull back then thru like ur starting a lawn mower if ur body is commited to the turnover and u follow thru the disc should naturally fly on the turn slightly nose down letting the wind get underneath and carry it then since it's tailwind it should stable out toward the end to result in more d from the S
