The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
The course. I like to test them out in an actual round.
Distance throws I'll go to the local ymca park, there 's a football field and practice fields. Our dg course also has soccer fields for throwing distance and practice.Course is heavily wooded,so any open field is nice to see the disc fly withour hitting trees right away.
Soccer field behind a nearby school. I alwas take a "control disc" or two ...a disc I've been throwing and am familiar with... to compare to the new disc or discs I'm testing.
I either hit the High School football field, or the Elementary School Sports field about 2 minutes up the road. Both are always Windy, so I can get some good test throws on new plastic.
Last time I went out the Groove went the furthest.
Local parks with trees, I used to go open field and throw 180-220 a day but then I'd get pissed at trees.
I like to get a feel of how I can find the line, now.
Knowing the numbers like the back of your hand helps, too. In league I like going last and watching what other people throw and seeing the lines they take - at least the guys that use similar techniques - If I see one guy go off the tee with a Star FL I grab an FLX XL and just copy.
I know that doesn't match up conversion wise, but it works.
On the subject of the Sidewinder, I just got a Champ Roadrunner for this hole that has a monster anny off the tee on my local course and the damn mold screwed me, the thing is more stable than any Sidewinder, new, used - it doesn't matter - the top is flattened out - I'm hoping the Mamba brings some relief.
The Groove hoses itself because on any high speed driver you want the weight of the disc on the rim. The Groove is a p.o.s. mainly because of that. You expect to be able to get huge straight line shots off of the numbers, but they take too much material out of the rim for it to be a great disc, or even good for that matter.
The Monarch has a few good uses, at least.
It depends, but I usually take a new disc to the course. If I have trouble with it, then I will take it to the practice field and work with it.
