The Basket on the Rock.

I am going to see if this works and I can post up a few photos of the basket on the rock. I originally didn't like the idea of it but have changed my mind. One of the photos is of me sinking a putt on said basket.

I think if a course has good terrain, elevated baskets are an unnecessary design gimmick.  If a course has boring terrain, a couple of elevated baskets can be used along with other design gimmicks to make the course more interesting.

Yeah, that portion of the back nine gets pretty muddy when it rains.

As to whether or not it is a "gimmick hole", I originally thought that it was until I played it for #15 (it can be used for #16 as well). If you look at the photos it is somewhat framed by the trees on both sides as you walk up. I like that visually. And if you know how to play the hole a par is achieved quite easily. I parred it twice in a row when it went in that position. So after playing it I changed my mind.

It also doesn't have to be there all of the time. And there is a position nearby that can be used when we want the basket on the ground. But I do enjoy playing it and it is fairly unique.

Here are some photos of the other new position that went in at the same time. It is a really good position but as you can see from the photos the basket is crooked. Hence the thread that I started about crooked baskets. You can particularly see it in the closeup photo where the chains hang off center. I believe that it got crooked because they failed to keep checking it for being level and it shifted after it went in. I remember that the hole wasn't that deep so they piled some dirt on one side which probably moved after the Quikrete went in.

Anyway this position has been received pretty well.

What I didn't like about the whole issue of putting that position in the rock was that this small group of maybe four people decided on their own to do it and yanked another position out of the ground because they didn't have a sleeve at the time. The one that they yanked was the one just to the left of me in the photo. We had to reset that position in the ground. And now one of those guys is saying that we can never use that position. However, he doesn't have the right to tell everyone else in the club where a basket can or can't go. I deleted that other thread about all of that drama because I am just trying to put it all behind me and move on. Yet there are some haters in the club who want to push their agenda and dictate what goes on. Those of us who do a lot of the work just want our local course to be well maintained and things to run smoothly. All of the drama is just childish.

I think that the rock position is an interesting addition for #15 but doesn't add much at all for #16. On #16 it seems a lot more like a gimmick thing.

I truly hope that we can move on and just play disc golf. Still hoping that we can get some new courses in soon. It's just been a bit of a struggle to get through all of the red tape in that regard.

In Florida, we try to have elevated baskets as much as possible, due to having flat land.
Do it.
Gimmick or not, like to see a ball golf course do it!
Maybe it will get more interested in the game.......
