The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Greetings DGRUS World,

Cassidy aka "Wicked Dyes" started something interesting.  He created "The DGRUS Great Disc Adventure".  With this concept he asks " A club to track the Great Disc Adventure.   If a disc labeled with The DGRUS Great Disc Adventure is found please take a photo and post it on here along with your name/ date/ and location found then leave it for another to find".

Also he asks

How to prepare a disc for its adventure!

On the underside of the disc put:

The DGRUS Great Disc Adventure

Take photo of you using the disc

Go to:

upload photo and leave name, date, and location

Now sign disc and leave for someone else to find and use!

Once you have sent out a disc for the first time please create a discussion with the Disc Name, Color, Stamp (distinguishing marks) as the tittle.

This is a great concept.  A way to track a lost disc.  But I would like to start something similiar yet different.  I am taking Cassidy's idea and taking it a step further.  I am stuck here in Florida.  And realistically, will be for a long time.  I would love to travel and experience many different places and Disc Golf Courses.  But since I can not, there is nothing that says that I can't sent a disc of mine all over the place.  What am I talking about ?

"The Brotherhood of the Traveling Disc"

There are fifty states in the United States.  For those who do not know here is a list...............

New Hampshire

New Jersey

New Mexico

New York

North Carolina

North Dakota

Rhode Island

South Carolina

South Dakota

West Virginia

I will need to find a friend in each state.  This DGRUS Friend has to befriend me, send me their address via private mail (I will not spam it, and I'll only send it to the person needing it) and promise to do the following.......

* Upon receiving the disc, take it to their local Course.

* Take a picture of themself holding the Disc in front of their Course Sign

* Play the course using the Disc when possible

* Upon returning home, go to this discussion, post the picture, and write a little story about it at their course

* Mail the Disc to the Next person on the list.

So far, I would like the following people (Currently on my Friend's list) to participate :

Ed Horst..................... Mr Ed                                                     Florida

Cassidy......................Wicked Dyes                                            Michigan

Mark Ellis....................Mark Ellis                                               Michigan

Shawn West.................Dookville                                                California

Donny Olow..................Donny Olow            Morley Field California. First place I ever played

David Reisner............... Kirk                                                       Hawaii

Steve West..................Steve West                                             Minnesota

Tim...........................Tim York                                                New Mexico

Monte........................ Moe Dee                                                New Jersey

Brett..................... Brett@sickdisc.com                                      Wisconsin

If they all accept, all I'll need is 42 more friends.  If they do not accept, I'll need someone to step up and take over representing that state.

Would you be willing to be part of the "Brotherhood" ?

I can not make this happen unless I have enough friends to cover every state.

When is it gonna get to Wisconsin? I don't wanna be throwing him in the snow, I'd hate to lose him :).

nevermind looks like I've been replaced by Brett@sickdisc.  :(

In the beginning I had put down Brett for Wisconsin.  But he did not respond.  I had placed you as the State's rep but you never send my your address.  So Robey the one, may I have your address sir.

There has been some confusion.  Players have said that they wanted to represent a state during the Brotherhood quest.  But some did not befriend me, thus I could not write to them.  And others did not send me their home address.  So far, I had skipped South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio (too bad cause Ohio is where my father was born),  also, I could not find anyone of rthe upper eastern sea board.

If you would like to join this quest, please, please contact me.

My thanks to Mark Ellis and his efforts.

Currently the disc is with him in Michigan pending transfer to Cassidy (the creator of the stencil design of Dad).

Awesome "Silverback"

If you need a rep for South Carolina, I will be glad to put my name in the hat.  He can come down and hang with the Cola-town crew here in Columbia!

Could we get an updated list of people that you do have the address for, so those who want to help know if they need to send you there info and all that.

Update as requested.

Florida                     "Mr Ed"                       Pending story and pictures

Tennessee                "Goob"                       Pending story and pictures

North Carolina         "Silverback"                 Pending Story and pictures

Ohio                       "CincyChains"               Pending address and event

Wisconsin               "Robey the one"           Pending address and event

Virginia                   Fred Vegas                  Pending address and event

Michigan                 Mark Ellis and              Pending story from Mark.  Cassidy pending event.

                              "Wicked Dyes"

California                "Dookville" and            Pending event

                              Donny Olow

Mississippi              "Android Jonny" and      Pending event

                              Eric Day

Texas                     "Nick"                           Pending event

Illinois                    Lee Castro                    Pending event

Utah                      "Kent"                           Pending event

Washington            Chuck Nichols

Indiana                   Jeffery Nugent             Pending event

Utah                       JP Pulley                     Pending event

Hawaii                    David Reisner             Pending event

That makes up twenty states if everyone on the list befriends me and sends me their address.

That just leaves thirty more states to go.

I am trying to find as many states as possible so that when on receives the disc, partakes in the event, sends pictures and their story, all they have to do is send to the next closest state.  I want to make it affordable for everyone.

I ask for every to be patient.  It takes time for players to partake. and the Mail system isn't fast when your paying the cheap flat rate.

Next, it will be approaching winter in a couple of months.  So those in snow areas, you may have to wait a bit until playing season starts back up.  I have heard of players playing snow golf and have seen some wonderfull pictures but I am assuming the chances of losing a disc would be greatly increased.  I would hate for "Dad" to freeze his ass off waiting for the snow to melt and then hope that he is found by the right people.  My dad and I were born in Ohio and have been in snow, but why take the chance.

Hope this updated list is helpfull.

If you know players from any of the states not covered, Pass the word about the cause.

Thank you all once again for partaking in this event.

Dad looks safe as a bug snug in a rug.

Awesome pic.

“Travelling Disc Report”

The Michigan Experience.  This report is being filed by Mark Ellis, your faithful reporter.  Upon receiving the disc from Tino “Silverback” I contacted Cassidy Mayne, the other Michigan volunteer who evidently designed the unique dye job on the disc, (which, by the way, resembles some humanoid form, maybe even a face) as my instructions were to do so.  As a married guy I know how important it is to follow directions and orders and mild suggestions.

Cassidy, being a busy and important guy with a real life (are we sure he is a disc golfer?), could not free up his schedule for a week so I took the disc out to my local courses.  I, of course, had the same concerns as all of you.  Was it safe?  Would the disc bring good luck or ruin?  Was it a curse or a bringer of good karma?  Could the face on the disc see into my soul and judge me worthy or an imposter?  Was Cassidy putting me off so I would be the lab rat, not him?

My first experience with the disc was Sunday, October 23rd, playing in the Kensington Doubles League.  I am relieved to report I survived that experience but you knew that by reading this, unless I have come back as a ghost.  My team cashed but I drew a good partner who carried me, so the experiment wasn’t conclusive.  Maybe the disc was waiting to exert its influence.  Maybe the disc was asleep.  I noted the eyes on the disc never blinked but mystical objects don’t follow the normal rules of the universe.

Well now it is a week later and two unexpected things have happened.  Playing Monday with buddies back at Kensington Metropark I threw an ace.  Not a typical ace, mind you.  It was my 11th ace of the year, tying my highest yearly total of aces.  More unique, it was a backhand ace.  My first backhand ace since I started driving forehand 15 years ago.  Oh, and it was a backhand skip ace, the first backhand skip ace of my career.

I took this as a good sign and paid homage to the Travelling Disc.  It might have smirked at me but if it did it was very quick.

The rest of the week I got out a few times and my game seemed solid.  I made sure the Travelling Disc was kept in an outside putter pocket so the “eyes” had a good view of what was going on.  I casually mentioned to the Traveling Disc that I was registered to play in a Tournament on Saturday and any special luck perhaps should be reserved until then.  No reason to waste it, you know.

So Saturday came and the early indications were not good.  The tournament was at the Goldenrod course in Davison, Michigan.  Unfortunately there was no Pro Grandmasters division (50+), where old guys like me belong.  There was no Masters division (40+) either.  The only division I qualified for was Open where the young and strong and talented play.  Well the Traveling Disc was up to the challenge, or there were enough unnoticed math errors or perhaps mass hallucination or something but the TD ended up handing me the trophy: my first Open victory of the year.  I may have to call Cassidy and tell him he can’t have the disc for a few more days or weeks or months.  Are discs allowed to visit casinos?

Sorry it took so long, life got in the way.  I had a great time with "dad."  We traveled to Jack Mattox Rec Park in Georgia.  We played a relaxing round and layed up on #9 nicely for and easy birdie.  We then traveled to "The Sinks" in Chattanooga, TN.  This was another fine outing scoring well and enjoying out time together.  I'm glad I was able to take part in this great adventure.  I play by myself and had nobody to take a pic with me and your "dad" but we did have a great time together.

Kevin (Goob),

Thank you for participating in my quest.  You single handly represented two states.  That was awesome.  Thank you for your write up and for your pictures.  I appreciate your efforts.
