The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

A quick disclaimer - I'm still new and poor, so I can't just buy new discs on a whim.

That being said, I have a SSS Wizard and an Innova Birdie to use as putters.  While I can certainly see why the Wiz is more popular than the Bird, I find myself putting with the Birdie because it's not only less stable but much harder, which I prefer.

I would really like to hear people's thoughts on the Birdie.  Other putter advice is fine (and expected), but if the Birdie will play, it's simply a matter of getting another one instead of two Magics (my current desire).

I tend to use an over-stable putter (Rhyno) for windy days and a less stable Aviar-x on calm days.
Me no likey!

I had one for a day and gave it away...
Though I don't use it for close putts, I prefer my ultra soft blowfly II, I like the Birdie for short approach shots because of its slow speed. I can take a straight path at the basket and not have too much putt left if I miss because of it's slow speed and ability to drop quickly.
its a frizbee no joke to play catch with its a blast to putt with ehhh its ok
magnet always will be my favorite but i like the new focus too
i started with the birdie, liked it on calm days, did just fine. i struggled in the wind with that disc. i went through many other putters, finally struck gold with my Soft Banger GT. if you like harder plastic, you may like Pro D or ESP. It has a Groove in the top of the disc. I feel like i'm cheating, no worries about where to put my thumb. i've let 4 people putt with it during a round since January. They all, no JOKE, now putt with some version of the Banger GT, whether Soft, Pro D, or ESP.
Now that you mention it, the Birdie was my "go to" for just about all of my round today, but when the wind picked up - CLANG!!! right off the top of the basket. I thought the wind wouldn't be too bad since it's so heavy (175g). I guess aerodynamics are more of a factor, even with short putts.

I have seriously thought of getting a Soft Banger, but that's mostly because I haven't grown up. :) Staying in the gutter, but with a serious comment, maybe I will try a harder Banger.
I have a soft banger and love it. Its great for anything from driving to predictable putts. I dont know how i ever played without one.
converted 1 more person this week with the Soft Banger. he had been using a KC Pro Aviar for years.
My putters include a Birdie, Banger Gt and a Dart. I started off with just the birdie but have come to like the other two better. I think the birdie works fine, but I'd try out multiple putters if your able to (friends discs, etc).
I appreciate all the comments and I'm surprised no one has mentioned other Gateway putters yet, since I hear they're the most popular. I have taken a look at Discraft putters (online, unfortunately) and the Magnet, Banger, and Challenger have gotten my interest. On one hand I would really like to support Gateway because I'm from St. Louis and I would love to support Dave and what he has done for the area, but on the other hand... I want to sink my putts.
If you want to support Gateway then do it. Their putters are among the best. Don't worry so much about everyone else putts with. No one has a "secret weapon" that gives them an edge over you. Just practice and experience.
