I am trying to dye some discs in a solid color. These are just some older white discs that I sometimes have problem finding and want to dye them a bright pink. At best I am getting some weak red.

My test disc is a DX Kite. And I am using Rit dye in some very luke warm water. I can touch the side the pan.

Hotter. For sure. Not much though. You shouldn't be able to touch the pan.
I dye with the heat where I CAN touch the pan. the bottom of the pan even. soak disc for 30 minutes or less (depending on what shade of the color you are going for.
first off dx doesn't dye and you need the dye at about 110 to 115 deg. mix the rit with a little liquid laundry detergent
I have never used detergent. Simply water and powdered rit dye. and that temp seems way to hot. you are risking warping discs.
thats the best heat we have found so far it dyes quicker and never had a warping issue
thats the best heat we have found to dye the disc and have a good bright color and we have never had a warping issue. but i have found if its to hot the vinyl will come off the disc and have bleeds
star, z, champ, x , and pro take the best dye
you are not going ot have good results at all trying to dye dx plastic. I have heard of a rit dye nad vinegar mix, but never tried it. I have gotten dx ot take dye very faintly but its not even worth the time.
that is what I eneded up with. A really bad dye that is ugly and then some. Well I am on a Z plastic now.
DX is a cheap pratice plastic I have sucessfully done work on this type also R-pro is kind of the same. I just dye it twice with a rinse off inbetween. My latest dye is on a DX COYOTE it came out nice just ask Tino. You can view it on my page.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
