thinking about purchasing for an approach disc.  Reviews please? Thanks!

I think it would make a good approach disc. I just bought one like 3 days ago. I played a bag tag round and decided to go with the new putter. Needless to say you should never do that. Especially when you have a really high ranking tag. I Lost it...for the first time in 4 months too. It was more overstable than I like. Which cost me. When thrown hard off the tee though...it went dead straight and faded out at the end. So I went and bought a Summit yesterday and during my round I used the Summit to putt with(which worked well) and I used the ridge a couple of times for an approach and it went well.
I usually don't like using putters as approach disc but this one seems to be a really good one. I'd say do it. Even though I have only had it 3 days I found it's purpose in my bag...as an approach.

how does this handle being thrown lightly? I want something that i can really yard on and not make it go as far as a roc might, and for a big of a 'go-for' putt.... I've been using the classic aviar but im looking to expand...

I do some testing for Vibram and to be honest I kind of ride their knob but the Ridge is the disc for me so I'll be kind of long winded.

The Ridge, Focus, and Wizard are all very very very similar discs with the Focus being more HSS understable and the Ridge having a bit stronger fade at the end. XLink material is TOUGH and they have 3 kinds (Floppy, XLink, and Firm). The Xlink is the best all round material and I use my 174g Xlink Ridge for darn near everything. I can drive it roughly 280' push putt from 30' in confidently and I use it for approach because I can throw it straight, annie, flex, or all kinds of hyzers. It handles all kind of power well for different ranges but some people do find that because it is noticeably more overstable than stable it tends to drop a little shorter than they would hope. Compensating for this is not hard.

The Summit is super understable and does not handle full power well because it will turn and burn using +300' in power. It will however hyzer flip a country mile and glide like a parachute. Its better for longer puts because of the glide but a miss could set you 30' from the basket. It handles powering down very well. it will not tolerate any OAT what-so-ever.

The VP is a hungry pig that eats wind for breakfast and people who love overstable putters love the VP. It has converted many Rhino, Pig, and Challenger throwers to its side. It will flex back EVERY TIME and if you can turn it over either your form is bad or you're the incredible hulk. You can't throw this thing hard enough and it will often come up short, the issue is that it can teach you bad form if your not careful.

If you know your primary putting style then this next part will be useful.
If you push putt then the Firms will be very useful to you and the Xlink is also nice
If you spin putt then the softs could be your ticket to a lot more confidence. (WARNING! The softs are butter in your hands. I posted on a few other sites some photos of the prototype Soft VP I had where I folded it into a pizza slice, curled it into a burrito, and smooshed it every which way I could think of and it still flopped back to its regular shape. The only thing you can do to ruin it is crease it or leave it exposed to the elements because they can turn brittle because they're rubber after all).

So my suggestion for what you asked is try an Xlink Ridge and Xlink Summit first. If you know if you like soft or hard putters order the soft or firm.
