What Sequence for Listing Forum Posts

I have several choices for the order in which forum posts appear on the front page. I'm having trouble choosing between two defaults. Please give me your opinion on this:

Default 1: Would have the post that has most recently have activity on it be listed first, then the next, ad infinitum.

Default 2: Would have the post that was most recently begun first, then the next, ad infinitum.

Default 1 shows you quickest where the commenting activity is. But it also can mean that a new post that is not quickly commented on can disappear from the front page.

Thoughts?

i would say option 2, give eveyone a chance to have their questions and thoughts answered

Typically the most recent post will be listed first (default 2). But I look for the high activity posts myself. No activity= no interest.

I like to follow what is being commented on recently but usually scroll through the pages to see what posts are recent, however, it seems if it is somthing interesting it will be commented on anyway.

That's a tough one....I like 1, recent activity. Interesting posts can always be bumped back to the front.

Discussions in chronological order, is that in one of the options?

I'd say activity Default-- i want to know whats being talked about currently, plus the we can more easily re-do old discussions instead of having a 8-9 page forum thread always up there

Default 1 sounds better for me as im used to it now from the Forum tab anyways.

I like Default 1. I like seeing Forums that have recent activity versus those that are not being used.

I like Default 1. If a thread keeps coming to the top, there might be something worth reading there.

default 1. if it's worth discussing, it will be on top.

Like Hootie said, Default 1 is how the forums are configured. And not just here, but every forum board I've ever been on is configured to have the most recent activity listed at the top. Newly created posts will still get their chance in the spot light as they will be the "most recent" activity when created. If there's interest there, they will stay up there.
