We all know that both of these components are important to our game but which is more important, and why?

I would say Confidence also. My ability is shaky at best being only a player for about 6 months, but when I am having a good game and confident about my game I always do better.
I'd also have to say confidence. I know for a fact that I won't miss from 5-10 feet. Yeah..it's only 5 -10 ft but.. that's confidence.

Cheers.
Putting and "Over” analysis post is a prime example of how confidence can actually hurt your ability. You may have more ability then you give your self credit for and the more you talk up how hard something is you can, mentally make it impossible.

Confidence allows your ability to be maximized.
Confidence aids ability.
Conversely, without ability, it doesn't matter how confident you are.
thats easy, confidence. If you have the ability but doubt yuorself, you will always second guess everything and that will cause problems.
I would say abiltiy because if you dont have the ability to make a shot then there is no way that your going to have the confidence to make the shot.
Confidence is more important and not to be confused with arrogance.
Right. Arrogant is bad. Confident is good. It's a balance we all have to understand.

Confidence will follow after ability.

Any able-bodied DGer can make a 20 ft putt, so the confidence will come with practice, but if your distance maxes out at 350, but you are "confident" that you can make this shot over the water where the other side of the pond is 400 ft away, said confidence is contrary to ability and may not serve you well.
I'll go with the crowd on this one... confidence... the ability comes with believing that you can...
Just about everyone has the ability , but you have to be comfortable with confidence !!!!!!
