I just got an ESP Predator that was supposed to be orange but is more towards neon pinkish. So I want to dye it more towards red. The only place that I can even find dye around here is the Hobby Lobby. I picked up a pack of Dylon Tulip Red (powder) but it didn't seem to do anything. They also had Rit dye in both liquid and powder form. Since I don't have any disc dyeing experience I thought I would just ask here first whether it is possible to dye ESP plastic and second will good old Rit dye work? It is of course possible that I just didn't use a dark enough shade of red.

Also how long do you need to let a disc soak?

I soak the disc for about 15 min in hot water (about as hot as I can handle taking a bath)
Dylon does not work. I have tried it a few times. There is a product called IDye (poly kind) that I herd works but have yet to try it myself. But yea esp plastic does dye. It fades rather quickly tho.
Rit is hit and miss now due to the change in formula. I use powder rit at the moment. 1 pack rit to 64 oz water seems to work nice.

Thanks for the info. I may have to try the Rit. I did see that IDye available on Ebay as well.

Is it necessary to use salt?

I have never used salt.

Thank you for the great tips. I went over to Hobby Lobby and grabbed a pack of the dry Rit dye in Scarlet Red. Much better results. It is now a very nice tint of red. Exactly what I had hoped for. Now off to make my Medusa a bit more orange.

Obviously the Dylon will not work. Thanks again.
