Well today was one of those days that made me realize that some things are just plain stupid and have no place in league. Today that thing was 3 holes of worst shot in random doubles. And I'll tell you why...

I was feeling it today and so I was pretty in tune with my shot. I love doubles because you can be aggressive and go for it. Anyway I think that we might have bogeyed the first. We stepped up to hole #2 and my brain is trying to grasp this whole concept of dumbing down my game. I decided to not let that get to me until my second shot on #2. I had thrown a decent shot up the gut, but because of my partner we ended up on top of a plateau to the right which is actually #1s fairway and we were also close to the basket for #18. My partner stepped up and shanked into the trees. I stepped up, threw my Champion Banshee at the proper angle, went straight, banked left down the hill and dead center. Guess what? We are playing worst shot so that was just wasted. There was no point in me hitting that shot and in fact we bogeyed. This is random doubles and I'm being penalized for making a great shot. BS I say.

That is the last time I will play said format. I didn't pick my partner, but I am being penalized by randomly having him as a partner. His bad shot counts more than my good shot. He is a friend and I don't have any problem playing with him in doubles. But why was his shank worth more than my great shot. Doesn't make sense.

I thought about this and there is only one way to correct this problem. First I will say right now that I will not play another round of random doubles when worst shot is involved. It amplifies any inequalities greatly. Last time I had a guy that was so bad we went OB on every hole. I had no reason to even throw. Stop the insanity! The solution is to say that everything in the basket stays in the basket. You never take anything out so a made basket is a made basket and you are still rewarded for good play. The problem that I have with this whole thing is that it was not announced before money was taken. I was expecting regular doubles, nothing funny so that I may be aggressive. That was taken away from me and I had no say in it. I came to play random doubles.

You just can't take that shot away from me. It's mine and I'd like to see anyone do better.

wait, so all this whining isabout the fact that your shot didint count?? Not the outcome of the event, but one shot??? Man, I am glad I dont have to play the game with you around. You are going to give yourself a stroke wiht all that worry and crying over one shot.
My point is that I have decided that I will no longer participate if worst shot gets called in random draw doubles. In fact I will probably go farther and run the league next week to see that it doesn't happen again. I ran league all of last year. I don't get the chance to compete that much but when I do I like to go for it. Sorry if you don't like my point of view but it is the point of view of someone who wants to compete and not be randomly penalized for making a good (great) shot. I used to play all of the real tourneys, but now with having my son on weekends and my current state of unemployment I don't have the time or money to do so. I can make league and when I show up I want to play, not coach, caddy, etc. I could have spent my time better elsewhere if that is the case. I ran league all of last year and I never called anything stupid like that. If you or anyone else is happy having to dumb down your game then go for it. What's the point? My point is that if I'm not there to make that shot then why am I there. I love disc golf as much as the next guy, but part of that love is making those shots. That's the rush. Take that away from me and you are taking away part of my love for the game. Maybe other people are happy with carrying a piece of plastic around a course, but not me. I showed up to compete.
one final note, we ply "Diablo doubles" (666). we draw (random) partners, and we draw for which holes, 1-6, 7-12, 13-18, get the best shot, worst shot and alternate thrower. SO even these get randomly mixed up so the game is never the same. You have to play, and become a totally strategic player. this will also improve your game by allowing you oppertunities to throw from your partners shitty lie and vice versa. If you get that mad over it, maybe you should play Pingo Pong or something else!
I did get better by throwing from my partners shitty lie. I made the shot only to have it taken out so to speak. How is laying up improving my game? As I said if it's in, then it should stay in. End of story.

As for getting mad, well sorry but I'm not going to say the politically correct thing just to make everybody happy. If you know me then you know that I always speak my mind. I'm not always right but I will let you know exactly how I feel. This isn't about the sport of disc golf. It's about stupidity and in this case calling worst shot on those holes was just that. I'm calling it like it is. I will see that it doesn't happen again.
But you guys don't use the worst shot format every week do you, or even every other week?
No, in the past three years it has been only called maybe twice. On both occasions I was wasting my time. As I said the first time it happened to me we had to play nine holes of it and I had a guy who threw everything OB. Not much point in me even throwing when that happens.
Tell me more about this Pingo Pong will ya Tino. We play that format (666) but only on Wed night draw dubs, and we rotate it in with singles, best shot dubs, regular skins, wolf skins, and whatever else we think of.
Is Pingo Pong something real. I thought that he was telling me to play Ping Pong.

Do you guys announce what is getting played each week because we do so. That is what I expect to play when I show up.
man I do get that random draw is a bad format for worst shot. but i dont think worst shot is a bad format we have played wear both putts have to be made or it dosnt count. the thing that sticks out in my mind is how much the round would suck for the person that wasn't as good to have a partner not happy to play with them. it does suck to not have your bird count but did you loose by 1 shot if not i don't see why it would matter you still made the shot isn't that what counts.
Once again not the point. After that I had to check my brain on every shot because I was fighting my instincts. I was happy to play with my partner because I know the guy and he is alright. It is simply that playing worst shot without letting all made discs stay in seems counterproductive and it takes logic and dumps it on its head. Are we here to make shots or miss them on purpose. That is the question that nobody seems willing to answer. Answer that question honestly and you get my point. It's not about the partner or losing by one stroke. It's about playing disc golf to make shots!
It's about playing disc golf to make shots! didn't you make a good shot and still get mad sounds like it to me. i do agree everyone should know before the round. and i think playing dubs should be about your partner also. it is dubs.
People have posted that local league is about bringing in new players and encouraging them. I believe that worst shot has the opposite effect. Think about this. A guy who just started playing last week shows up to local league and gets paired up with a local pro. In regular doubles they win based on the strength of the pro's arm and the newbie takes home some cash.

Now the worst shot scenario. They play and while the local pro crushes all of his drives they end up always taking the newbies shots and possibly some OB shots. They lose horribly and the newbie is frustrated because he let his team down and played horribly. There was also a lot of pressure on the newbie because of the situation. The newbie never returns to league because he thinks that he doesn't have enough ability. Worst shot amplified his feelings of frustration and inadequacy. Ask my partner how he felt about worst shot and I think that he would tell you that he did not enjoy it one bit.
