The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Well today was one of those days that made me realize that some things are just plain stupid and have no place in league. Today that thing was 3 holes of worst shot in random doubles. And I'll tell you why...

I was feeling it today and so I was pretty in tune with my shot. I love doubles because you can be aggressive and go for it. Anyway I think that we might have bogeyed the first. We stepped up to hole #2 and my brain is trying to grasp this whole concept of dumbing down my game. I decided to not let that get to me until my second shot on #2. I had thrown a decent shot up the gut, but because of my partner we ended up on top of a plateau to the right which is actually #1s fairway and we were also close to the basket for #18. My partner stepped up and shanked into the trees. I stepped up, threw my Champion Banshee at the proper angle, went straight, banked left down the hill and dead center. Guess what? We are playing worst shot so that was just wasted. There was no point in me hitting that shot and in fact we bogeyed. This is random doubles and I'm being penalized for making a great shot. BS I say.

That is the last time I will play said format. I didn't pick my partner, but I am being penalized by randomly having him as a partner. His bad shot counts more than my good shot. He is a friend and I don't have any problem playing with him in doubles. But why was his shank worth more than my great shot. Doesn't make sense.

I thought about this and there is only one way to correct this problem. First I will say right now that I will not play another round of random doubles when worst shot is involved. It amplifies any inequalities greatly. Last time I had a guy that was so bad we went OB on every hole. I had no reason to even throw. Stop the insanity! The solution is to say that everything in the basket stays in the basket. You never take anything out so a made basket is a made basket and you are still rewarded for good play. The problem that I have with this whole thing is that it was not announced before money was taken. I was expecting regular doubles, nothing funny so that I may be aggressive. That was taken away from me and I had no say in it. I came to play random doubles.

You just can't take that shot away from me. It's mine and I'd like to see anyone do better.

Hey Tino, I know that you disagreed with me, but I still read your point of view. I really don't care if you make a spelling error or not. I do all of the time. This forum justs seems to have gotten lost because people are concentrating more on how I said things than what I said. I do appreciate Justin's point of view that other people would probably have been angry at the situation as well. Being angry or not doesn't change the facts of the situation and I thought that is what we were discussing. Too many tangents and I'm afraid to say too many people that don't want to hear a point of view other than their own. Let's not degrade into name calling.
I don't really want to change any rules. I have decided to no longer participate if it gets called because I don't like the logic behind it. That is my choice and it would be nice if people just examined the logic and decided if it really makes sense to them or not. If, like me, it makes no sense then maybe choose not to participate. If you like it then knock yourself out. My opinion was just that because of situations that can arise (like shots not counting) it shouldn't be played in league. That is all. My opinion.
Nice post. Haven't heard douche yet though. I think I used to call people that back in high school in 1978.
Like i said before, and others have said. If you wanted to tell us how bad YOU hate "worst shot" then we would listen and not throw our .02 cents in. But the wording you used to make the point was terrible. It came off as though you were pissed that the people didnt tell you what the format was, and you payed your 5.00 to know, and this and that. It had very little to do with the whys and hows of why it isnt a good format! And your header makes it seem personal, so you might want to pick a header along these lines: "worst shot" sucks because..... or I hate "worst shot" doubles. Instead it was very personal, like someone did you wrong. And thats what your article comes off to us as being....
Reread your article, and see what you think its about from an outsider looking in.
So if you are just venting about how bad "worst shot" is, and how it makes no sense in the game of disc golf.(Because your suppose to throw GOOD shots, not reward BAD shots.) Then most probably will agree its a gimmicky game, so BEWARE of the consequences! But your article wasnt very clear in that point! Thats all we are trying to tell you. But no hate, you are still a fellow disc golfer, who is open minded just like most of us on here!
I know that I may have started out with a bit of venom and people may have only looked at that in the beginning. Later, however, when I tried to clarify my point of view it seemed to get lost in all of the personal attacks on me. I have a tough skin so that doesn't bother me one bit. I will agree with your point 100%. I was pissed but the anger had nothing at all to do with the 5.00. It was simply the logic of the situation that dictated my anger. I play to make shots and I don't believe that is such a bad thing. Anger only lasts so long and there is no point in holding on to it. I tell my kid that all the time. Doesn't mean I'll never get angry again. I don't even hate worst shot, I will simply choose to not play it if it gets called in league again. I was displeased before the round when it got called, but I had no idea how things would actually pan out. I am a very logical person and this just doesn't fit the logic of the game (IMHO) at all.

I even tried to propose the alternative of Tough Shot which to me makes a lot more sense since made baskets stay made. A few people picked up on that as well. The whys and hows of the situation basically boil down to made shots not counting. That is where I take issue with it 100%.

Actually I went back and read the original post and I would say that venom is really too harsh of a word for what I said. I was pissed, but I think that I did a fairly decent job of explaining the situation. Sorry for any misunderstanding, however.
I agree with you. its probably best if you don't play doubles anymore
Oh, I will play doubles again this Thursday and there is a good chance that I will actually be running league on that day. I just wont play Worst Shot again.
That would make me upset as well. Worst shot is only to be played with people of all the same skill level. It make no sence to play this in a doubles league when ratings range from 1000 to 800.
Congratulations, it only took several days and hundreds of posts for you to come around to what most people were telling you - if you don't like Worst Shot - don't play it.
I said that from the beginning. It only took me one hour to figure that out. The rest of the folks here seem to think that this post was all about me and my anger. I am a fairly level headed person who rarely lets anything bother me when playing (except for bad etiquette). Funny thing about all of this is I played yesterday with a couple of guys who I see out at the course all of the time. They don't necessarily play league, but I think one of them may have on at least one occasion. I told them what happened and the first guy said "That's BS" while the other guy said "I would have asked for my money back". So the average Joe disc golfer (who it seems a lot of people here want to play league or get more involved in the sport) agrees with me. Seems that maybe there are just a few too many people who want to speak for the sport because they think that they know best but don't really speak for the average golfer.

Now another friend totally disagreed with me and I respectfully disagree with him. He is a quirky guy anyway but still a good friend.
Look at the new thread. oh damn, bump!! bwahahaha

I want that crazy long thread off the main page! Thank God for the "stop following" button!

Someone give him back his $5, the 2hours he wasted at league, and the 25+ miserable hours he's spent re-hashing it on the forum so we can all view such wonderful mind-numbing disc golf topics such as endless "Roc vs. Buzzz" debates and ever narcissistic "What's in your bag?" posts that we can stop replying to.
