I was told that the Wraith "isn't meant to be used be a sidearm thrower." Is that correct? I only throw sidearm because I can't get and distance from throwing it "conventionally."

I mostly throw the wraith sidearm. At 6000' plus I use champion, to throw straight. Star for hyzers. Sea level is a whole different story...... destroyer!
I love the Wraith for sidearm shots. I carry a star and a champion.
I have used it successfully -- it's a good sidearm disc for a medium snap throw. A good companion disc would be the Orc which I think is a little more reliable and straight but not quite as far. For sidearms, it's best to stick with similar stability discs unless your 'touch' is on especially if you are backhand dominant. For example, it's tough to go back and forth between a wraith and an xCaliber because of the differences in snap requirements (xCaliber requires considerably more snap but if snapped properly, will reward you with a very fast long line drive that will hyzer at the end).

Lastly, if you are backhand dominant, it's best to settle on 1 sidearm disc (one that you can slightly turn over when you throw it flat and put good snap on it) for drives and really learn that one before trying a different one.
