Thank you, Eric, for the comment on Disc Golfers for Jesus group.

Would welcome further discussion on a more rational basis; I don't see this forum as a place for immature rants or ridicule of others personal views.

Very intrigued by the comments here, especially those from Blazo - great quotes from "founding fathers".

A lot of the statements here are similar to those I have felt myself.
Religion is all about FEAR, true Christianity is not.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ but without a dogma, denomination, or doctrine to spoil the pure Christian beliefs.

As I understand, an atheist would refer to one who disbelieves any "god" or "deity" - is this accurate? There seems to be much confusion on the exact position of atheists (although not as much confusion as exists in denominational Christianity.)
Is the original Greek version of an atheist what an atheist is today?

I truly want a greater understanding; I'm not being cynical here.

Given that you all stand behind your own personal beliefs as I do mine, we can only benefit mutually from learning about the other's points of view.

I assure you, you will not get the same old "religious" rhetoric from me. There is a difference in religion and true Christianity.

that reminds me of one of the funniest things I've heard. My buddy who beliefs, but has a friend who doesn't believe told me this cause he thought I would find it funny. He goes "god is just Santa Clause for adults".

I think it is because the majority of religious people get all uppity when confronted with someone who doesn't believe in their shenanigans.
same as some atheists can get kinda uppity sometimes also.
it took me awhile to be converted to be honest. I mean it is brainwashed into so many of us from an early age to believe in this "god" .
it was bad enough when I found out santa claus wasn't real, you can imagine .... hehe.

the world needs A LOT more athiest. Why is people are so weak that they can not find meaning in life with out the comfort of religion?

I joined this group on pure principal of being Atheist myself. I play and live like no tomorrow, no regrets...if I'm wrong at the end...so be it.

Agreed, PoeticLogic. My belief is a-theistic, but critical thought tells me that I can not prove a negative, particularly in respect to the existence of a god...therefore I am an agnostic (without knowledge). Technically speaking I am what is referred to as a 'soft atheist' or an agnostic atheist. I infer that you are, as well.
Also, I wish this club was more active...maybe I should do something about the low involvement levels. Mmmmm.
