Comment by Matt Schenk on December 15, 2011 at 12:35pm Hippy, suck?! nah, you've been killing it lately bro!
Hell yeah 11 tourneys! I'm in it to win it bitches.. reppin' the Barnett Park Posse in towns all around the state! Thats how I do!! :-)
Comment by Hippy on December 14, 2011 at 3:50pm I suck and am proud!!!!! Matt I have been calling you a sandbagger since I have known you!!! So, no worries here bro!!! 11 tourneys?!?! Holy moly!!! I wish I could play that many!!!! I play only Barnetts!!!! I would probably be in the bottom middle also!!
Comment by Matt Schenk on December 14, 2011 at 1:27am Super Dave, I hear ya, I'm all about playing with better players and I'm honored to be called out for playing "too good" recently. And to think all I had to do to break my course record was to post it online beforehand! Likely a fluke round but i would love to start thinking I can throw a 50 regularly!
I'm the last person anyone should be calling a sandbagger after the year I've had. 2011 was my first year playing competitively. I played intermediate in 11 tournaments this year and spent most of my time in the bottom-middle groups. For 9 tournaments in a row I went home with nothing more than a player's package and an occassional CTP prize. I spent enough money losing tournaments that some guys would have called it quits or moved down to rec div. Had my scores been for advanced division I would be pretty much be in dead last in every tourney. So call me a sandbagger or whatever you guys want.. but with an 873 rating and having only made it in the Am payout twice.. I think I owe it to myself to play a few more intermediate tourneys until I'm in the payout regularly OR I win one, OR my rating makes it to 900 or higher (whichever comes first)... then I will probably move up to advanced in order to keep pushing myself to get better. If I can continue to keep those bogies off my scorecards I might move up sooner than later. We'll see. :-)
I owe a lot of my recent improvements to the development of my flick shot. After throwing backhand since day 1, I started practicing forehand this past summer and it took until this past November to get used to it and develop some distance and accuracy. A little bit of credit goes to a handful of our advanced locals who have given me tips along the way (Jobe, Terry R., Gabe to name a few).
I'm with you Hippy. If you shoot underpar regularly, you are definitely NOT an amateur. If you have a scratch handicap, you are definitely NOT an amateur. The fact that you haven't won a tourney SHOULDN'T play into it.
51 is your best parkside and then you shoot 50 on Sunday. Gimme a break Schenk, you are NOT an amateur. With a scratch handicap you are definitely an Advanced player. Embrace it, play against guys of your caliber and you'll only get better.

Comment by Matt Schenk on December 7, 2011 at 7:48am I don't think I can make it unless a few of you can meet me out there @ 7:30a. I have family coming in around noon. Regardless, I'll see if I can't at least drop a donation in the pot.
@Hippy: Hell yeah I play ams.. at least until I WIN one! 51 is my best on parkside, 56 on NC.. those are am scores!! :-)
