For the moment, please do NOT contact the city about this idea. We'll want to have all our ducks in a row when they are first approached. Thanks.

I had heard rumors of Lasky, but never heard more than that. I'll have to bike over and check it out. I just looked at Google Earth view, and it looks like you described it. I would have guessed that was Hamtramck, but I would have been wrong. Thanks for the info. BTW, Belle Isle would be awesome, but there is an old nursery by Rouge Park in which TommyO and I had designed a 24-hole object course.

BTW, Lasky Rec Center was the 1st ever disc golf course installed in Detroit even though its as if you are standing in a school playground throwing at some baskets.
It s a course and it is in Detroit.

That is fine with me. I called down to the Parks Department today and as I expected, Lawrence "Happy" Hemingway left with the old regime. I can tell you Lawrence was extremely nice to work with and was very interested and helpful in getting the course installed at Lasky Rec Center.

I left a message for the new Park and Rec Manager and I think she called but I was at Addison Oaks talking with their board about getting cement tee pads installed there and could not take the call. When we got out the department was already done for the day. I will try again tomorrow.

Progress? Hardly. At least now I know who I am dealing with and that is a start.

I prefer here, John, but only because I'm not on Facebook.

So, does anyone have a preference where we should disc-uss this topic more: here or the Facebook page?
I am all for not duplicating general discussions.
We can post important milestones or info at both locations.

Discraft's Detroit = Suburbs
At least that was the mood back in the late-90s. Before Cass-Benton was installed, Kenner told me that baskets in Detroit would be stolen. Of course, we'd have a course already if we had the baskets stolen from Cass. Maybe Discraft has changed its anti-Detroit bias, or maybe Innova would like to support a course in Discraft's back yard. Either way, if disc golf really wants to broaden its base, rather than grow the same demographic, I can't think of a better city than Detroit to start.

Hello Terry,
I live in Detroit and love the game of disc golf. I have played at Lakeshore a hand full of times, and also shopped at your store. The Throw shop is GREAT, I was wondering when I would see the first store dedicated to this sport. I believe Belle Isle is a park with so much potential. If I can be involved in the promotion & building of this coarse I would be more than happy to do so. Please let me know how I can join the club.

Detroit = Discraft... Maybe they could work out a deal?
Ma na ma na Comment by Ma na ma na on November 9, 2009 at 9:28am
I gave up talking to Detroit Parks and Rec about ten years ago when it became apparent that there was little or no financial support for a course in Detroit. I would be delighted to lend whatever assistance you require. I'd like to see the PDGA and manufacturers taking an active role in promoting a more diverse player base, and Detroit is an ideal place to start.
