Disc Golfers do Good

We contribute to our communities in a lot of different ways. Food gatherers and other charity tournaments are what come to mind. Blood donation is another way, though not usually done in a group.

Let's get a count of how much blood has been donated in aggregate by the DGRUS community. I know there are more out there. If you've ever donated blood, even once, join up, and encourage others!

BTW, it's probably healthier for you to shed some of that iron. Otherwise you risk turning in to Magneto.

I have given for the past 6 years after I finally got over the 110 lbs. weight when they would finally let me. I work at Huntsville Hospital so cool thing is if you give a pint of blood, at their LifeSouth, the hospital gives you $20 worth of gift cards to the Rave Movie theatre, a t-shirt and goodness knows I can sit there and drink apple juice and eat those goldfish crackers till the sun goes down! lol My son now gives so we make it a point to give blood side by side. Only time I can get some one on one time with a 19 year old! lol I encourage everyone to give! ♥

I donate blood once every 3-6 months for the last 5 years.

I've donated 19 pints and frequently do plasma donations.
Plasma has a 42 hours shelf life, so it's very beneficial.

I work in a hospital, and see how needed rare blood types are. If you've never donated, try it! Giving as little as 1 pint will make all the difference in the world!

I have been giving since high school (we won't discuss when that was).
I was at a reception put on by our local blood bank and they were honoring several people who had donated over 100 gallons. My hat is off to those people!

Comment by get your discs and godiscn on March 12, 2009 at 9:56pm: hey there dirtysep. you may have been paid for what you give but my plasma and platelets goes out of me for free and usually ends up serving a child with cancer or severely burned without any charge to anyone. O POSITIVE, yes I am a commoner, but I'm without the virus that most adults carry ? I can't remember just what that is but what it does is allows my blood to go to patients (mostly children) that also have not yet become infested with the virus I speak of. last week I heard that I could get $55.00 for the process but also heard that the blood/plasma/platelets that the agencies pay for usually ends up in perfumes, make up and other cosmetic products. So I think I keep up the keeping up for free, unless I need money to play a tournament. Unless you want to sposor me, anyone ? Giving Blood for children - It's my only good dead, aside from telling everyone "peace in your universe and with that said, get your disc and godiscn".
