The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Enlisted and served 1967-1971, got lied to by recruiters and ended up chipping paint on an amphibious ship (instead of meteorology school), USS Comstock (LSD-19), but got my choice of duty anywhere I wanted to go by the new CO when I got the original Captain canned (for overt racism) ;-) and got transferred to special forces, Underwater Demolition Team Thirteen (UDT-13). Then added a few months to enlistment to avoid a 4th Vietnam tour and finished up with the Defense Special Research Planning Group (DSRPG) (think "first Cruise Missiles" and NATO Cosmic Top Secret) @ the Naval Observatory in DC. (Used to watch Spiro Agnew playing tennis outside our building.)

Wouldn't wish it on anyone, but very formative and good for me.

Nice job, Pirate. I was in for 3 years and 8 months ('65 - '69). I got out 4 months early, but you spent 4 months extra to cover for me. Thanks! Naval Support Activity, Danang (Seabees). Seems like 100 years ago.
This is excellent. I just arrived in A school, Pensacola, from etc, and can't wait to explore Florida disc golf. To see a formed group of military dgers, is just awesome. Thank you for paving the way for this SN/IT.
I was in the Navy from 1974-1978. Didn't enjoy it very much; they "put me on a aircraft carrier and took away my birthday". My final rank was DP3.

Did anyone else take the Navy's leadership test to qualify for Petty Officer? Easiest test I ever took. It was multiple-choice; I looked at the answers for each question and choose the answer that was “What John Wayne would do in that situation”. Surprisingly, I was one of the few to get a perfect score on that test. I would have thought there were more John Wayne fans in the Navy.
Eleven years in the Navy for me.
Was a 8485 (Pych Tech) Hospital Corpsman.
Around my ninth year my wife ruins my life by
putting in papers for a divorce me and later takes our
children to another state. When divorce was finalized,
she abandons the children.
Had asked for my command to help get my children, but
my wife had done her damage with my command, my
command gave me two choices..................
1) Get out and take care of my children
2) Stay in and give them up to adoption
because they were not gnna help me.
So I stayed in a couple more months, reached my
high year tenure, and got out to care for my kids.
That was 12 years ago. If I didn't get out, I could have been
working on my retirement.
But caring for my children was the most important thing
I could have done.

I do not regret my decision.
