For what it's worth, I would have loved to be at the event as well as the work party but I was on the East Coast and out of the country respectively for those dates. I heard that it was a fun event though. I hope you're not too burnt by the experience and will come back after a break and continue to put good energy into the sport. Peace.

Hey Drew,
My absence from the scene was not due to any animosity or grudge----just life situations. The truth of the matter is that usually it IS a handfull of people who do the work and most just enjoy the results of a few dedicated players. So many times while building dexter we would see familiar faces playing through the work parties , while saying good job guys! Get used to it cuz it is just the way it has been since I started work parties at Oak Grove in 1978. Badmouthing clubs is not the answer to disc golf's future. Building liasions, unifying rather than dividing, communication rather than accusation will go a lot farther towards our common goal. I did spend a little while out at the event on Saturday when I could get away for a while and thought the parts of the course I saw looked really fun to play, I hope this becomes a permanent course someday.

Andrew, any chance we can see the scores and ratings before you head out on your trip? Out of 32 people I counted at least 8 EDGC members who played, and they brought at least 6 of the 18 baskets. I'm not sure what the Westmoreland club turnout was, but I'm not sure the lack of players can be attributed to either club. You should post this on the Westmoreland club site too and see what they say. I imagine there were a lot of reasons people couldn't attend: cost, other plans, didn't know about it, etc.

It was definitely a disappointing turnout. I'm always disappointed when we can't pull together in Eugene. We've got a lot of old grudges and people who constantly run down one club or another, and none of that helps us get where we want to be going. I had a good time playing and I will help out however I can keeping the idea of a permanent course at Alton Baker moving forward.

Everyone showing up to The Emerald Valley Open was a great start in developing a new disc golf course in the Willamette Valley. However, I am a bit disappointed with the lack of support from the local clubs. It seems like it was more of a handful of individuals who really threw it all together. I appreciate everyone who brought baskets and came out to help prepare the course for the event. Maybe next time the Westmoreland and Eugene Disc Golf Clubs could show up and make their presence felt. It was a bit shocking to only see 32 people show up and support our chances of getting a permanent course at Alton Baker Park. I am personally going to be taking some time away from the game to have some real fun. Running events and developing possible new courses is a huge task. Especially when you have very few people helping you along the way. See ya all after the Country Fair, NW World Reggae, and Reggae on The River. PEACE

The meeting is at the HILYARD community center, 2580 Hilyard Street which is on the NORTH side of the swimming pool.

Got a call from Dave Battaglia last night.

Tonight there's a meeting (6pm - 8pm) seeking input on possible uses for the ridgeline acquisition that the city just made. 200+ acres. This will be in the Amazon Community Center (2700 Hilyard St - 541-682-5373)

Dave thought a disc golf presence would be very useful.

Who can make it? Unfortunately I can only get there late (if at all).

This is an important step into getting another course in the ground.

The course looks sweet! Thank you Matt B., Mark S., Nate and Brianna. There was ten hours of work done out there today (big applause). I just hope I'm not so sore that I can't play tomorrow lol. See ya all there. So far there are ten "good" baskets confirmed for tomorrow. That's without counting all the people who don't get on here that are bringing baskets as well. Tournament headquarters will be up at 7 am so feel free to bring baskets early and get some practice in. Thanks again to all from all the work parties ~ |>]-< peace.

I can be there Friday afternoon with some tools. I can bring two Discatcher Sport baskets (no extra chains added) if those are good enough. I gave Andrew my info, but didn't pre-register, so I hope I can still get an XL shirt! See you Friday afternoon.

Thursday afternoon and Friday we will have a little work to do. A weed whacker rake, and some pruners could be useful. There are a few spots where the "drip line" actually is meaning how far the mowers can go under a tree. Another important task is to make sure to round up 18 good baskets.
It hit me yesterday how sweet of a course this could be if it can become permanent it would actually be far superior to Westy. It would be busy on a daily basis for sure and the sport would get a lot more recognition in our area.
Wait until you see the graphics on the shirts we are getting, they are tiiiiiiiiight!

I know I'll be there. Online reg opened up pretty close to the tournament date, and closed yesterday (according to the online reg site) so I think more people will sign up on Saturday morning. It helps to get the word out early and often. Is there going to be another call for volunteers to help get the course in shape - because I'm sure people would come out and help again. I am looking forward to it!
