The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I would like to see an article, or series of articles about the best places to live as a disc golfer. Outside Magazine does something like this with the 10 best places to live in the US (or something like it). Note: It might be a good way to generate some ad sales to non-disc golf related business in the area of the towns selected?

Quality of life, cost of living, real estate averages for home buyers or renters, good jobs, safe neighborhoods, good and numerous disc golf courses, good weather, good DG clubs, etc.

One big article, or a section dedicated to the best towns/areas to live in the USA would be very interesting to me. Even if it's not the "best" places, it would be cool to see a comparison of what it's like to live in different areas of the country as a disc golfer.

I know as a "climber" I traveled an lived in places that I though would give me the best of opportunities to pursue my sport. I traveled a LOT, lived in Boulder CO, San Diego CA, Flagstaff AZ, Moose WY, Carbondale CO, and all are "hubs" to get to the best climbing in those areas.

I really have little information that tells me where the best places to live are to pursue the sport of Disc Golf, or how they compare to each other.

John,

I think that's an excellent idea. We are interested in pursuing lifestyle and cultural issues that surround our sport. Plus the broad scope is consistent with our goals.

Got any specific insights on this one? Or is it just something you'd appreciate if you saw it done?
I subscribe to Outside, the best magazine on the planet!
Why doesn't disc golf advertise in it!
John Deusler did years ago?

I live in Florida, Definitely one of the top Five!
I don't know what the ad rates are like in Outside ... but my guess would be VERY expensive. Expensive enough to stop a disc golf company dead in it's tracks, LOL.

If disc golf companies are cheap ... disc golfers are even cheaper.

It would be a wonderful world if magazines could exist on the support of those who read and write them ... but the fact is advertising is what makes a magazine tick.
Shhhh!
Innova & Discraft are making millions.....
I believe that if they did advertise:
They could not keep up with demand....
What? Advertise? Hm?
Funny..
The point is to advertise outside the sport...
Was after Rothstein for years to produce 100's more per issue to give away...
Remember Disc Golf Journal? Used to get extra from them....
Without PDGA support...
PDGA won't pay it.
I am finding that building New courses is the best advertising.....
It is working here in Florida...
The truth is that "print' is not as effective as it used to be.
TV is the best.
Looking into small spots on TV.
Used to cost 50K for a day of shooting...
Coming down to a production, (quality at 5k)...
And spots are not that bad on the local market.
I am sure that PDGA members would push for it if a vote were taken...
I would pay more for it.
The Weather Channel was at Tuscawilla Park, Daytona Beach, FL
For a Road Crew Spot....
Airing in 3 weeks
You'll be happy to know that we are reaching out big time. We've sent over 3000 magazines to "outreach" recipients. Everyone from park and recreation contacts to public libraries and college bookstores. We'll keep doing it, too, cos' I believe we'll see dividends.

Oh, we've also already secured a trial buy from a national magazine distributor. We'll get FDM on newsstands. When we know where they're gonna be on sale, we'll come to all of you for help in selling them out, proving the demand ;-)
Good,
I am an optimist....
Very Glad to hear this. (first heard of it).
Disc Player was made to Promote the Sport.
Maybe we all can do it.
Go to the club "Shut Up & Throw Tour"
Trying a point of purchase approach to advertising.
Disc Player Spent a lot of money last year on advertising......
Also,
Daytona picks up a lot of traffic....
Karl Edwards (NASCAR) plays every year at Tuscawilla Park., before the
Daytona 500.
in 1999 Golf channel Video on The Academy..
With My interview, Climo, Young Garrret Gurthie, and others...
Now weather channel
I used to work in an advertising agency...
We backed up 'print' with radio & TV....
Must do the complete package......
