Former Ball Golfers

For those of us who used to think we had to pay all that money to enjoy a round, and then found out disc golf is better anyway!

I love the game of ball golf. However the the money and time requirements were too much. The dress code was lame too. Disc golf rescued me from the frustration. Ball or Disc, golf is a great game. Many of my disc golf friends also play ball golf. I watched Ken Climo and Garrett Gurthie hitting drives after a tourney. Yeah, they are great with a club too!

I only wish that I could've thrown disc on some of the ball courses I've played. That would be most excellent.

I'm southpaw and that made it difficult to fine good used clubs. Rentals were crap and so I didn't keep at it. Money too. At the time a good set of lefties started at around $700. I'd rather buy ten discs, new mags for the van and a couple cases of Becks.

A poor college kid had to put down his clubs b/c ball golf was too expensive without mommy and daddy's money. If i had to do it all over again, i would!!! I still play Bolf a few times a year but my REAL passion is Dolf!

Is this for former caddies also? From the age of 12 to 16 I caddied in St. Louis. I played some on caddie day and when I was 17 shot an 85. I was a star in other sports so I didn't consider golf to be much of a sport. In my 20's I played a little more with the stick and ball until I needed money and sold the old Sam Sneads. In 1982 I found disc golf and played in Austin til '93. Lack of competition Near my age group made me retire from masters play. It took too much money to go out and find good tournaments. 7 yrs. ago I moved to a small town and the local golf course was cheap and pretty nice. My wife's father was a small texas tour player and she liked golf and I was too banged up from cycling accidents to continue racing. I finally got to shoot in the low 70's and made two hole in ones(204 and 279 yds.). Last summer I was asked to put in a disc golf course here in Brady, Tx. I worked with a retired welder and built the baskets and New Years Day finished the last hole. I haven't touched my Mizuno blades in 6 months, but I still love them. I wish I could figure out how to hit a disc 200 yds.

still hit the round ball around. broke my shoulder three years ago, and thats what got me on the disc golf course, and have not looked back. Can still keep it around par most of the time, but I dedicated about 25 years to that game, and now have moved on to the fun "golf" game.

Played off & on for about 15 yrs, but never that competitve. A few company events but mostly casual. I just sorta peaked early and never got much better which made it boring, It takes up too much of your day. Since '03 (post DG) I've become a once a year guy. Don't miss it.
