To all tournament playing Geezers.
I am 61 and just started playing disc golf about 1 1/2 years ago. I want to compete in tournaments, but with my experience..I find myself in recreational. Not good. I would greatly like to play with individuals close to my age. So that means Senior Grand Masters. Should I go ahead and do it or continue to play Recreational. I know I am accepted in Rec. but would I be accepted in Senior Grand Masters with only 1.5 years of experience? Any positive responses would be appreciated. Thanks.

Senior Grand Master is a great division. Smart enough to know better, and dumb enough to keep trying. Welcome to the club.

Geezers - you know who you are - maybe. When you are around 50 you are not sure, and when you get to be 65 you are not sure - but for other reasons.

I've emailed Peter and get his messages. The travel is not worth it to me. I'm going to be pretty content to play at my own course and soon there will be enough small towns with courses inside of 100 miles of me. Then we can have a heart of texas tour. Back in '89 I won over 3000 in masters and some open tournaments and declared a loss for irs purposes. I got into cycling and racing because there were races for older guys and lots of good local competition. It was much better organized and run than pdga tournaments. Then I played lots of local ball golf tournaments. In my opinion the pdga has too many divisions. Old guys used to have only one option-pro masters. All the guys that used to have fun losing to me would be playing am masters now. I have to travel hundreds of miles to find anybody my age that can give me a run.

For any interested Geezers,

Peter Shive is organizing an old guys network to identify good tournaments and recruit divisions. The idea is to figure out which events give the oldsters the most benefits and to encourage us to attend those events. You can request inclusion to the group and the email chain by contacting Peter.

You know I haven't played a tournament in 15 yrs. I thought by now there would be a tour that followed some sort of sensible route around the country. Is there one? There doesn't seem to be much in the way of tournaments for old guys my age anyway. I haven't renewed my pdga membership and don't see much reason to do so. I think we should start a Texas tour separate from the pdga.

Hey Larry, no problem. After all, driving to Brady is almost 15 miles closer than driving to TULSA! I can't see me ever again going to a tournament I can't commute to, other than a World's. I made an exception in 2007 to go to the HOF event because it was also the opening of the IDGC.

Maybe someday though ya never know

Hey Bill, Sneak out to Brady sometime. I've finished putting in the course here. We've got a nice 18 hole layout for "seniors". I've been meeting the local kids and turning them on to the game, but I'm lonely without anyone to push me.
