Thanks for the info again. I have contacted the supervisor at the Parks dept, everyone seems interested so far. I have created a group on facebook to garner support for this idea. Please feel free to join this group, support the cause. Thanks again. Happy discin!

The big points I made sure to cover are:

-Your proposal fits into the county's master proposal (they usually want the most bang for the buck w/o hurting mother nature.)

-Disc golf brings people to the park and generates money for the area, from people buying gas to park fees( fees may not apply for Amen though.)

-Disc golf actually discourages crime

-Disc Golf is fun for all people and ages

-And the big one: It will cost the city, county, whoever, NOTHING.

You will never get anything approved if you turn to the local governing body for money. That being said I have lots of supporting figures, paper, and what not, so if can actually get in front of the Advisory board, then let me know and I will share.

Thanks for the insight. I will get in contact with the parks department on Monday and get what information I can. Destraayer, are there any particular points the Advisory Board liked about your proposal? Or was it more just the idea in and of itself? Any input is appreciated, but thanks again.

For Eric: I am going through a similar process of putting in a course at Bertha Brock County Park in Ionia. To make a long story short, I knew somebody on the County Park Advisory Board, he got me in one of their meetings to pitch the idea, and they loved it. Now Capn' Gary and myself are in the process of flagging out some holes. Once we show the board our layout; and they approve it (which they promised me they will), then comes the long journey of raising money for equipment.

The Bottom line is: Find out who runs Amen Park, when do they get together, and ask if you can pitch them the idea.

How would I go about starting the process of getting a course set up at Aman Park on Lake Michigan Drive. Any thoughts? The land and terrain is perfect, and the area is completely underutilized. Do I contact the parks dept? Any help would be appreciated.

baskets at johnson would be dope and riverside has eighteen baskets

The baskets at Riverside are all there. I heard the parks dept has/ had the baskets for Johnson... or what is left of them.. they weren't getting stolen, it was more like they were being destroyed. The real prob/ situation is there is no way to 'police' the course. Trolls (aka dumb-asses) would F them up at night, strip them, stand on them, etc.. It's sad.. that is the 1st place I played. It would B great if it had baskets again. But we need some heavy duty baskets for that park, something that is hard to destroy... maybe the Gateway baskets. They are really sturdy.

My understanding is that they were stolen and each time one was missing they just replaced it with a post.
I heard they were doing it at the riverside course downtown also now.
Maybe I will visit my MOM this summer, stake out the courses and catch me some basket thieves. ):-I
