Wow, what a year. what a year in discgolf as well. Let me turn this over to The Chuckster and see what he has to tell us. "
As I reflect on the past 5 years of running the HomeGrown Tour, the anticipation of the 2010 season is somewhat overwhelming. The support from the HGT disc golfer over the past five years has been quite humbling. Even with the economic difficulties and lousy weather in the recent past, attendance was still at an average of over 84 people per event for the '09 season. Now for the breakdown...
The “True HomeGrowner” award goes to Ken P, Pee Wee, Mitzi, Grinder, Stacey, Jim Markov, Chuckster, Stretch and Don P. for attending all 17 events in the '09 season. Impressive indeed! Four dollars of each players entry went towards the course hosting the event, raising an impressive total of $5,470 to help offset the expense of maintaining a quality PRIVATE disc golf course. By paying out over $12,000 in prizes and $6,000 in cash, once again, the HGT proved to be one of the most rewarding disc golf tours in the world. A new addition to the '09 season, "The Community CTP", brought a new air of excitement too. A dollar from each person's entry went towards the community ctp, amounting to over $90 in 8 different events, not a bad take home for a closest to the pole prize!
I would also like to bring to your attention the people behind the scenes that are a HUGE part of what the HomeGrown Tour is today. Ken “The CTP Man” Perry attended every event this year and helped keep things running smooth. He was there from start to finish at every event, helping me set up and take down, organizing CTPs and filling in wherever needed. Without Ken, the HGT events would not have run as efficiently as they did! Mitzi Maul helped out a great deal with keeping the points and scores up to date on the website; and Kevin Smith for providing the web space. Ann Adams for her continued support, artwork for the discs and shirts as well as her “Custom Year End Trophies”. Jonathan Poole from ZoneDriven for his insight and contributions to the year end prizes for the ZoneDriven points race. Last but not least, Stacey, Bear, FBJ, Dave Mansfield, TINY, Page “Disc Gnome” Benton, Innova, Carlton Howard, Sweet Ann and Jim Markov for their constant CTP donations throughout the year. On top of all of the before mentioned people, ALL OF YOU that donated CTPs, helped add scores during lunch and at the end of the day as well as helping in many other ways, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Once again another course has been added to the tour and for the first time we are expanding beyond the borders of North Carolina. Ace Run Ranch in Suffolk, Virginia is the new addition to the tour for 2010. With 18 courses on the tour and "rumblings in the mist" of many more in production in North Carolina and surrounding states, it seems that the addiction of HomeGrown disc golf is becoming an epidemic. Will some of the other private courses east of the Mississippi want to get on the band wagon? Well that remains to be seen...
Some other exciting additions to the 2010 season are in the works as you read this email. With the help of the PDGA state coordinator, Mike Norris, a program is being designed to simplify the registration, payout and points. Resulting in a more efficient, accurate tour. Another goal on the 2010 tour agenda is to have every custom disc mold available for sale with custom artwork on it by the middle of the season, allowing an unprecedented selection of plastic with custom artwork. Finally, I am once again working on tweaking the points system to try and make the points race as competitive as possible with a points reward going to competitors with a perfect attendance.
On a closing note, I would like to encourage all of you to bring CTPs to events this coming year. CTP's can be any number of things such as discs, hats, brownies, posters, dvd's and anything else that you think people might be excited to win. Come on and bring yourself some good mojo and spread the wealth.
Once again, THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for your support over the past five years and I look forward to your continued support over the next five.
The end of the year points and the schedule for next year is attached for your viewing pleasure.
See ya 'round!
