IT's TIME FOR THE USDGC!!!!

Well it' time again to see the best of the best play for the championship at the USDGC. There will be a lot going on and a chance to see the best players out there playing against one another. So........ here is a few words about the Homegrown Zone from The Chuckster,(The USDGC is only a week away and shaping up to be the best one yet!  Zone Driven, Spike Hyzer and Black Jax Sports are organizing a "Tailgating Competition" at the VIP parking area this year.  In 2008 the "HomeGrown Zone" was developed to provide a casual atmosphere for spectators at a prim o location to enjoy the USDGC experience.  Set up just off of the tee box of hole number 6, you are sure to enjoy the view of 4 of the lake holes on the gold course while relaxing in the comfort of your "tailgate".

 

Jonathan Poole, a strong supporter of the HomeGrown Tour and owner of ZoneDriven, has upped the ante this year for the HomeGrown Zone.  A Tailgating competition!  Gather your disc golf buddies, clubs have an emergency meeting and represent your disc golf community at the HomeGrown Zone.  A large area has been provided for the tail gating, now we need the tailgater's.  Gather up your grills and recliners, shade canopies and tables, show the pros the ultimate in disc golf spirit, by watching the best do what we love most, play disc golf.  Prizes will be awarded to the group/club with the most creative tailgate atmosphere.  There will be separate prizes awarded to two different winners, one on Friday and the other on Saturday.

 

As a bonus, the pros will be eating their after round meal in the tailgating area on Saturday!  While Innova and ZoneDriven are providing food, I encourage you to put your best recopies on the grill and invite your favorite pro over for lunch, please do not poison the competition.  This is a great opportunity to meet the golfer you respect and show your appreciation for their commitment to the game threw your generosity.

 

For those of you that have attended a HGT event this year, once again you will get free entry into the VIP Tailgating area.  When you enter the Winthrop campus follow the signs to the "VIP/Tailgating" area.  You should come to someone that is in charge of the parking.  Mention to them that you are with the HomeGrown Tour and they should let you pass.  Once inside the tailgating area, report to the Spike Hyzer RV and get your HGT VIP Pass.  It is important that you get your pass to remain in the tailgating area.  Then set up your props and enjoy the game! Remember, this is a Baptist College and you are representing the sport of disc golf. Please do not do anything to tarnish the relationship between disc golf, Winthrop college and the city of Rock Hill. A word from the Chuckster @ USDGC:, The weather started out with pouring rain on Wednesday making tough competition for the groups with early tee times but cleared up to a nice sunny day by 10 a.m. Two local favorites from NC are sitting on top of the leader board. Brian Schweberger is tied with David Felberg with a 59 for first place. Michael Johansen shot a 8 under par 60 tyeing Joe Mela for second.

ZoneDriven, Innova and the USDGC have really gone over the top this year for the tailgating area. There is a 40'x80' "circus tent" set up for you to enjoy some of the most challenging holes on the course. Those of you interested in competing in the tailgate competition some of the key criteria are as follows:

Side games like corn hole and darts, entertaining but quiet.

Remember that the USDGC is held at Winthrop College. Winthrop is a baptist college and the campus police have more authority that the local police and do not play around. If you are caught doing illegal activity, they will arrest you and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Please do not do anything to tarnish the image of discgolf and damage the relationship between the USDGC and Winthrop.

On another note, the fun does not end with the USDGC on Saturday. After the awards ceremony I will be going up to Cranberry Disco in Yadkinville to camp out. There is a homegrown tournament on Sunday. Join us at Stack's and play a fun course on Sunday. The ace pool has not been hit at the past couple of events and is sitting around $130.
