Per our first meeting one of the common goals and interest of all of us was a Clinic for Kids and or Family to help educate and get discs in their hands. It was briefly discussed that Lake Shore (The Ponds) would be a great location for this clinic.
At the A2CoPS event we had a Poll - $1 vote for what players would like to see us focus our efforts on - and it was a land slide for a Kids DG Clinic. Adding in a few donation from the CTP pre-round and later from an Anonymous source (Nice Ace - Nick Mucker - whoops) we have a current total of $90 for this cause so far.
Several people have begun collecting discs for such an activity and I am trying to spread the word to all the leagues and tournaments - you can give the discs to The Throw Shop, Chris Gee or myself. No matter what they will end up in kids hands - there are a few other such activities that they can go to if we don't get to use them in our area - but that would be a shame for the kids in our area.
I'd like to see this discussion help collect the ideas and formalize a plan for such an event. If we want to have this clinic this summer we need to get in on calendars for parents to plan for, which means finding a date that we can get volunteers to support and coordinate with Lake Shore.
We need:
A date for the event
Agenda and general description
Confirm location
Secure Volunteers - Instructors and support staff
Post the event info in venues to reach the parents & kids of the target age group
Hopefully grab a few sponsors to help increase the event impact for all involved.
A secondary goal would be to try and package this up for reuse at location like schools and other kid group settings - as mentioned in the meeting.
Who is in and for what?
What ideas do you have?
The kids are waiting for us. If we share our sport they will share their smiles and laughs, and both their joy and our sport are contagious - let's share...
