Sign up to help install tee pads at KCP 2 Replies

We all know Kit Carson is in sore need of good tee pads (holes 1, 2, 12, 13, 17 are at the top of my list).  So who is willing to step up to help?  Ryan is purchasing materials for the pads this…Continue

Harold - thanks for your continued interest and feedback!

Cement tee pads will not happen - city doesn't want them. Remember that this course is on a 3-year trial, which is why they don't want any permanent structures (like cement tee pads) built. And if cement tee pads had been installed at the start, 5 of them would already have been in the wrong location (6, 9, 10, 14, 15).

The Aces are working on installing rubber tee pads on all the holes, and purchased the pads from EI in order to do so. The plan is to install the pads with a porous sub-surface (decomposed granite and gravel) and wooden frame. Buying the materials right now. Work parties will be scheduling soon.

We still need $$ in order to complete the project. One way to help is to play in the Ace Race @ Montiel Park on Sunday, Sept. 12th. Part of your entry fee goes toward the course development fund. Last year we raised several hundred dollars that went towards building the course at Cal State.

Played the new holes 9 and 10 today. Hole 9 is a tough drive probably yielding plenty of pars, while 10 is fairly simple, relatively easy birdie. There's also a new pin placement for 11 about 25 ft left of the other long pin. No real change needed to get a 3.

Saturday Doubles @ Esondido Rotary Club DGC @ Kit Carson Park, sponsored by the San Diego Aces!

9am, meet at the practice baskets. Random draw, A/B pools. $5 to play - $4 goes to payout, $1 to ace pot. We're also asking for a $1 opportunity drawing donation, funds going towards rubber tee pad construction on the course. Drawing winner gets a new Kan Jam game. What's Kan Jam? Stick around after doubles and you'll see!

Oh ,.. a well intended explanation and smile on a new course is crucial to its survival.. this course is after all pretty much in a trial period or so I am guessing.
People tend to fear what they dont understand
when you remove the fear from the equation you get alot more support,
I'm a big fan of being understood,.. while invading peoples community parks so I can throw.

the risk of getting hit is with out question inevitable.. on any course! the risk of actually hitting someone with your disc SHOULD be very very low..
I have been hit twice at morley once this year and one time about 7 years ago.both times.. NEWBIE,.. I took a golf ball to the chin at Mission trails in prime flight,.. not on the bounce... Drunk fuckers!
this discussion has taken a bit of a turn.
all the pertinent information has been addressed by a couple of very important people from the ACES club including Ryan..
and I did not for one minute intend on that to take place.
DOnny set up this board and now its gotten a little millage,..that is good in my eyes. and NO ONE knows more about discussion board drama more than Donny!!!
Harold I feel ya man... that is why i wrote in the very first place. but my concerns are to have a more "la mirada" type of experience in san diego. so I wrote .. alot! haa haaa haaa.. Dont be offended man.. you live very close to me,.. I travel north all the time for golf..(the new one in chino hills was kinda fun) not to mention a couple other local underground courses very few ever will know of. hit me up at Morley some time I will tell ya bout it.

I also said that Newer players overestimate their true ability and take chances,..
that is how most people get hit, new course,. new players NO etiquette!
you take that with a risky layout,.. Try yelling "4" to a bunch of girl scouts...
soon enough the park will co-exist with the Disc golfers WE HOPE.

you should come try out Veterans park in Sylmar we have half the park just for Discc golf. we get some foot traffic there but they know whats going on and they wait quitely.

like aaron said the only reason people get hit is because the thrower is to lazy to explain to the said person in the way that they are in the way and politely ask them to move... or at least have a heads up... most pedestrians are actually willing to stop and watch you throw

the foot traffic must be considered no matter what,..
just as well,.. a patient "walk up" and "talk" to whoever is around your flight line
will go a long way,.. especially on a new public park course,.. SO there will always be some foot traffic,. it just has to be handled the right way,. and if there is just simply too much foot traffic then the hole is just not feasible.
Hows that for both sides of the fence!!>?
I think I opened up a can of worms here,. but its good to have a place to discuss it and have other ideas brought to light.

hitting kids in the head w/ discs and sending them to hospitals for staples is a great way to grow this sport...
