The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
Just picked up a Smoky Silver 172 g GL River today. It's exactly what I wanted. I am impressed that it can be controlled like a fairway driver, but can be bombed for the distance of a regular driver. I'd compare it to an Innova Eagle, but has the ability to go much further.
It has a slight to decent high speed turn, and stabilizes for a straight to decent hyzer finish. It worked great for long anhyzers, hyzer flips, and pretty straight shots.
I was getting great control from 280 to 350. I did try it on a huge downhiller that is 475, and although I ended up about pin-high, it was windy and only my 2nd throw with it, and unpredictably (though I could've seen it coming ha ha) it turned over and just went forever.
This disc took no effort to understand. It does what it is supposed to, and should an errant throw occur, it is because the shot was not executed properly. This disc is a great long, controllable fairway driver.
How's everyone else liking their River? Any comparisons between weights/color/plastic that you'd like to share?

Permalink Reply by Joshua Knutson on June 16, 2011 at 9:36am The River was my first L64 disc, picked it up because none of Innova's fairway drivers appealed to me numbers-wise. As soon as I saw the flight ratings on the River I headed to ebay and ordered one in GL. After one throw with it, I thought to myself, "I've been spending my money on crap discs this whole time.", because my bag was all Innova at the time. L64's plastic, trueness to it's ratings and style are miles ahead of everyone else.
I love letting people throw the River, they always end up with that "holy sh#t" look on their face.
