The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Okay folks, I've got a new "toy" for everyone to play with: http://tinyurl.com/2xmlq8

I decided back in February to start compiling a custom Google Map that includes more/better information about the courses that we have in the State, where (EXACTLY) they are, how to get to them, etc, etc. I used over 40 web sites to compile all of that information, leaning on PDGA.com heavily...for what now I believe should be the most accurate current view of what we've got for courses within the State of Minnesota.

The REALLY cool thing about having that information in a Google Map is the fact that the maps, satellite imagery and driving directions will continually be updated for us by Google, free of charge. That, and we'll now have the ability to get custom directions from anywhere, to anywhere...rather than being forced to view maps and directions from a very limited number of points.

Still on the To Do List is to assign Zone designations to each course, as well as to pinpoint the exact location of the Nordland Tall Grass Disc Golf Course up in Aitkin (the one course I know is not placed correctly). However, version 0.1 "beta" of that interface should at least be ready for folks to kick the tires and give it a test-drive. Oh yes, BTW, I also use a good bit of PDGA data in that interface...which I have subsequently cleared with the PDGA. They've given their blessing to having us use their course descriptions and ??? until (or if) we can develop improved descriptions on our own.

Let me know what you think...especially if you have ideas for making it better! I won't ever make a dime off the 35-40 hours I spent on that project (so far)....but if folks wanted to "re-pay" me for my effort, just drive on down to Springfield for a round or two sometime and let me know how we can make our course better. :-)
