Raising funds for the new golf course at Cal State San Marcos. $25 donation gets you a disc, custom tie-dye t-shirt and entry into the One-Disc-One-Round-Challenge. I left a yellow Valkyrie at Montiel a few weeks ago. Someone very nice called me and I accidently deleted the message before I got the number. If anyone can help me locate it I would appreciate it. Also, I don't get up to San Marcos much so if anyone would be willing to bring it to me the next time they play Morley I would make it worth their while.

Fellow Montiel Park Disc Golfers,

I received a copy today of the weekly report filed by the Ron Vinluan, the City's Park Ranger. In the report he described a complaint he received from neighbors of the park who use St. Paul Drive to access their homes. The resident complained that disc golfers using the street to tee off have been blocking the street when cars come by and have displayed bad attitudes about moving off the street to let cars pass.

This is exactly the type of action that will get the Montiel park golf course pulled if it isn't stopped. I'm sure that none of you guys have been involved in this, but I'm asking for your help in straightening out this situation and educating our casual players. St. Paul Street is not a City streeet - it is a private drive maintained by the homeowners who live along holes 6 and 7. We are their guests and need to act accordingly. If you've ever wondered why I don't use paint to mark the tees on holes 1, 8 and 9, it's for just this reason.

Please pass the word amongst you friends and playing partners about this. Even take a step further - remind other players who you may not know about the situation and ask for thier help. It would be a shame if the course got pulled because of the rude actions of a minority, but that's how things go.

I appreciate your help in this!

The San Diego Aces and Team Rizbee Productions will once again be hosting the Montiel Park Ice Bowl tournament, Saturday Jan. 17th @ 10am, to benefit The Angel's Depot, a local senior citizen food bank. With the tough economy, food banks are in heavy need, especially for seniors who may be living off of shrinking retirement accounts. Come help us raise funds and collect canned goods for this worthwhile charity. Here's a few details:

- $20 entry fee which includes a special Golden Sombrero Series tournament-stamp disc, and entry into the prize raffle
- PDGA sanctioned event, so you can earn PDGA points
- 27 holes: 9 short, 9 long, 9 short
- $1 mulligans sold to benefit The Angel's Depot
- Hole-in-one prize: DGA portable basket thanks to DGUnited
- Special Montiel Ice Bowl bag tags for division winners
- Long putt contest - one shot per can of food - Ice Bowl hoodie prize
- Special Golden Sombrero CFR discs on sale - what will they be?

The Golden Sombrero Series is made up of four Ice Bowls: Redlands on Jan. 3rd, Palm Desert on Jan. 10th, San Marcos on Jan. 17th and Sun Valley on Feb. 28th. All four tournaments are raising funds for local food banks or shelters - great charity causes. Players participating in the series will collect points at each event, based on the number of players of their gender that they beat. The respective male and female participants with the most points after the Sun Valley Ice Bowl will receive the coveted Golden Sombrero awards, which are guaranteed to be cool to look at and a good way to shade yourself from the sun.

Come to Montiel this Saturday for doubles at 10am ($5 to get in), followed by a cookout sponsored by the SD Aces, followed by a mega-bag tag challenge. You can come to doubles or the tag challenge or both. Voting for next year's Aces Board will happen at lunch.

If you don't have an Aces bagtag you can buy one for $5. I'm also trying to see if new members that sign up Saturday will get memberships thru the end of 2009, and both 2008 and 2009 bagtags.

Join the fun!!

Here's the plan for Sunset Park, which will open in San marcos next Summer/Fall (depending on how fast the grass grows). Note the disc golf course labelled in the upper right part of the park.

I have published the very rudimentary beginnings of a Montiel Park DGC web site. You can find it at: Montiel Park Disc Golf Course

I will be adding hole descriptions and factoids to the individual hole tee sign pages, a place to report doubles (and other) results, list of aces, sponsor page and some sort of lost and found page. Any and all suggestions welcome!
