North Side Chain Gang Mission

The North Side Chain Gang is a club of Houston area disc golfers who feel that the way to improving disc golf is to donate time and resources in the effort to earn more public acknowledgment of the sport and its wealth of talent on the North Side of Houston. Home to some of the state's most talented players, and some of the best courses in the state, the game is little more than a vastly popular underground sport to the community.
Through restoration and improvement projects using funds that are properly managed by the club and its officers, and raised through charitable events, minis, and leagues, the sport will grow within the area, and gain popularity and credibility through the good public relations built by donations on behalf of the club.
Equally, the club also believes that the future of the sport is its youth, and that there is a growing need to bring credible communtiy programs to recruit future stars of tommorow.
Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month, and wll have a location announced on this site. The first Saturday of every month will be a work day on one of our area courses that fall under our charter.
Membership Dues are $20 a year. All monies collected by the club are spent on projects that benefit disc golf in North Houston and beyond.
Club President: Matt Stillwagon "Mr. Blue"

I don't think there's any problem paying out rec/int in cash. You're not sanctioned. The Birdshot minis always pay Novice, Rec, Int divisions in cash. My guess is the only ones who will be offended are the Open folks who are disappointed they aren't getting a chance to take the easy money from the Rec/Int folks that have virtually no chance of cashing in a 40% deep single division.

IF you did a single division I think all that accomplishes is essentially paying out all the Open/Adv teams at the expense of the Rec/Int players. Assuming every team finishes about their rating then the top 40% is gonna pay all Open/Adv teams.

When you run it with multiple divisions the top Rec/Int teams are taking other Rec/Int entry fees, and the top Open/Adv teams are taking other Open/Adv entry fees.

Also, you may have enough teams for a Mixed division. If Rob & Michelle make the trip that'd be five.

That's kinda what I think too. Again, that's what WE are going to do, but I'm curious about some of these bubble teams. You are going to have two highly rated int. teams duking it out in rec int with the idea being their baggin' cash by avoiding the top tear teams in an adv/open division. Me, I'm playin' up, but by rating alone, I could play down. I like a challenge, and I just want to avoid problems with paying out an rec/int division in cash and offending some people ya know?

You gotta play at the higher rated player's level. That's the only fair thing to do for everyone involved.

Okay, so I've heard from people, and I'm doing two divisions tomorrow. Now most teams are playing with like rated players. There are however instances in which there is a disparaging difference in skill level. Given this scenario, I am concerned with an all cash in both divisions, and the instance of some bagging because you can't take on an upper team. I mean NO DISRESPECT, but the reality exists. Take teams like myself and conall, should we play in the rec/int level? CJ and Jim Hudson? If Rick Cazaras and Super Girl? These are the extremes, but it begs the question of ethics. I hope people will bear that in mind when they sign up. Myself included.... I'm honestly torn on which to play? C will make some puts, but my drive is a 95 percent probability on every hole. Given any other partner, I'm playing up in this situation. But given C's a part of this, do I give him a chance to win? Seriously, I dunno. I'm open to opinions here. Weird ain't it?

If Alex Needs Any Kind Of Work Done Out At The Branch, Just Let Me Know. All I Have To Do Is Make A Couple Of Phone Calls And A Crew Will Be Ready And On Call. I'll Do Whatever It Takes Do Get That Weekend To Happen At The Branch. As For The Person That Left The Commet About It Being To Many Groups There, I Don't Think No One Should Have To Worry About That. When Whoever Sees The Parking Lot Packed, They'll Most Likely Leave.

What time is the event Saturday?

Well, it appears as though our club is making some progress even in what has been a dormant winter for us as it is with most clubs.
I spoke with Andi regarding Spring Valley, and headway appears to be being made as she wants to meet with me for a round and a chat regarding what NSCG can do to help the situation.
Our first event of the season will be the Pick Your Partner @ McDade Doubles. Response to this event has been growing rapidly. If you have not checked the boards lately, we have some very interesting teams showing up. I will be posting a list of confirmed teams on the discussion forum shortly.
My sincereist appologies for the SNAFU that has been the tag situation. As some of you know, the tags were ordered some time ago with the intention being to have them ready to start the new year. When they arrived, the artwork sucked! As a result, I sent the batch back, putting us to the back of the line for production again. Truth be told, the new tags suck too IMHO, but at the risk of mass mutiny, we will be doing the tournament for tags in early February. The event will not be sanctioned, but will be fun.
Lastly, this event has drawn at least 3, maybe 4 mixed doubles teams that include kids. Naturally Conall will be there as my partner, but I would like to get the clubs thoughts on what WE can do to increase junior involvement. My initial suggestion would be that we assist Alex in any way possible to ensure the success of WORLD'S BIGGEST DISC GOLF WEEKEND, which appeared in the latest Woodlands Community Mag. Thanks for the support guys, and I hope that you are ALL ready to step it up this year and let's make our mark.
