Park Your Drive in the Michigan State Parks

The Michigan DNR's "Park Your Drive" series takes place at each of the 5 Michigan state parks or recreation areas between August 2 and October 25.

For a one-time fee of $5 (each tournament has its own entry fees, this fee is for the series) players earn one point for every deuce on their card, and five points for every ace. All points will be paid out to those players present at the finals to be held at Sleepy Hollow on October 25th.

Comment by Mark Stephens on September 3, 2009 at 11:48pm: No it was not. Now, every once in a while you see some guy carrying a shot gun down the fairways trying to figure out what exactly is going on but that is a rare occurrence.

the last time I spoke with the Park Manager he said the same thing--there is a possibility. Hopefully we can take advantage of that.

Was teh hunting--DG course ever a conflict or concern at Holly?

I guess I should have started a separate discussion, huh?

Comment by Mark Stephens on September 3, 2009 at 8:48pm: Where the course is USED to be a highly hunted area. They have LOTS & LOTS of park land and surrounding state land so the hunters learned that they would do better if they moved. It really was never an issue...

Comment by Ken Long on September 3, 2009 at 8:01pm: I met with the DNR manager at Fort Custer and I asked if there is any chance that you will ever allow disc golf to be played during hunting season. He mentioned there is a group from Lansing (part of the DNR I think) who monitor this kind of coexistance and that it is an uphill battle but there is a possibility. So...there is some "light" that could be checked into.
Summer and winter months are one thing to play in, but I think at Fort Custer...the Fall of the year is best for disc golf. It's a shame we have to pull the baskets during that time.

Comment by Chad Curtis on September 3, 2009 at 5:04pm: Do any of the State Parks in the series allow hunting in the park? (We know FT Custer does). I was wondering if other parks and courses have to deal with shut downs during hunting seasons.
