The event is a charity event that I am considering this for, I guess if you way out the pro and cons. the cost of the players pack is far less than the sponsorship therefore for charity is getting a better benifit. this was pretty customary in ball golf events that I have played in
The Huntsville, AL Ice Bowl is done this way. The entry fee is $15 and you get a DX disc, $30 sponsors get a hole sign and a Pro disc, $50 sponsors get a hole sign and a Star disc. The TD has done this 2 years and has had no problem selling sponsorship on all holes.
In Spokane our Ice Bowl costs $25 & 10 cans to play in. For $50 sponsorship money a player or business gets one spot in the tournament and a tee sign. For $65 he gets an entry and 18 mulligans (we sell mullies for a dollar apiece as a fund raiser) and a Tee sign. For $80 he gets the entry, 18 mullies, Tee sign and an Ice Bowl Beanie. I have 4 $80 sponsors so far and expect a few more before Feb. 2. Of the $80, $55 goes to our charity.
At our Lilac City Open tournament in May, any player or sponsor who brings me a $250 sponsorship (or 5 - $50 sponsorship) gets a paid entry into the tournament. Last year I was able to increase our sponsorship money by $980. I had 4 - $250 and 1 - $500 sponsorships last year. Word got around that cash sponsors got paid entries and a few business owners that play stated they would use some of their advertising budgets to pay for their entries. I believe that this technique is a win/win situation for TD's and Sponsors.
Guys Bill Bullington and Wobbly Bob thanks for those great suggestions.
What we do for our ICE BOWL is nothing as interesting as your idea. We take $5 off the entry fee from every player and ask for them to bring in food donations.
Our big Money maker is the auction we run. We have a lot of disc golfers in MI., and discraft is local and a great sponsor. We get some very unique items donated to the auction. 1997 DGLO 1st run stratus, 1999 10th anniversay no foolin stamped stratus. 1977 world frisbee championships disc, 1979 world frisbee championships disc, minis from the 70's and lots of other items.
