I'm not sure if there is a Trader Joe's in Michigan or not. I'll check on the internet. I'm not much of a Zin fan, but if Pinot is in the mix...let me know.
Finally...it seems your wine discussion forum here is gaining popularity. Cool.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you I highly recommend you pick up their R.C.T.J.W.F. (Really Cool Trader Joe's Wine Find) Zinfandel from Paso Robles. Its one of the most generic labels you'll see. Looks like a yellow sticky note. The wine is only $5 and it is the most delicious Zin I've ever had. I'll be buying a case of it soon, so if you're in San Diego you better go before I do.

I'm not much for white wine. It does not generally agree with me and is less healthful. But in the process...try Cavit - Pinot Gri. It is Italian and is on the grocery store shelves. Not to pricey.
Also try Fat Bastard Merlot and Woodbridge Pinot Noir. Through my wine years shiraz was on my list, but through time I settled in with the red Pinots. Also Cavit pinot's are good. Hope this helps.

I'm a complete wine novice, but I like a good shiraz (and whatever the american equivalent is, I cannot remember) for reds and pinot grigio for whites. Any suggestions for me to try in those categories, or any other notable reds for that matter?

Dude! I forgot about Boones Farm. That is really kicking it old school. Reminds me of high school, and dumb drunk chicks. lol.

I have been drinking wine since my first communion. Not really, but for a number of years anyway. Hey wait a minute...maybe it was since my first communion. Actually it was Boons Farm, then Ripple in the 70's and something called Orange Driver. But since then I have refined my taste buds over the years and settled into a Napa wine called Woodbridge which is part of the Robert Mondavi group. I really like there Pinot's. Good price for a 750ml. bottle is $6.99 at a Meijer's store. I'm more of a red dry than a white wine or sweet wine drinker
As Mr. Lotto is with his Blue Herron I am with my Woodbridge Pinot. Great stuff.

I love Ice wine from Germany, my sister-in-law and brother use to get me a bottle twice a year untill they moved to Kansas. But now I just found out my son reports to Germany May 10 for the army, so the good news is I'll be getting some good wine this year!
