Lots of new stuff in our network. I've address the All Disc Golf Tournaments Calendar elsewhere.
In this Note I want to tell you about:
'My Bag' Privacy Option
- Your "My Bag" Privacy Option; and
- Your ability to add the opportunity for people to click on links in your Profile and open up "windows" into your Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, or LinkedIn profiles.
In a given month, thousands of people who are not members of discgolfersR.us browse through the network Some disc golfers requested that their My Bag details not be visible to just anyone browsing through. We could make anyone who wants to see past the front page (Clubhouse) join in order to do so. But that would damage the value of the tournaments calendar, clubs, and other pages that disc golfers in here create that they want non-members to be able to see.
So, now there is a check box in the upper right-hand corner of your My Bag page with language to the right of it that reads "Make my Profile Private" - if you check that box, then only logged-in members of the network can view your 'My Bag' page. Anyone else, just browsing through, will get a message saying that to see more they have to log in or join and then log in. Check it out, if you like, using my own 'My Bag' page
. If you go there as a logged-in network member you'll see it. If you log out first and try to, you won't.
Profile Questions That Link to Other Places You Have Profiles
It's probably good to have the added level of privacy available, because of the new feature that lets you share, on your My Bag page, links that will open windows (still within discgolfersR.us) into your profile pages on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, and LinkedIn. In order to make any one of those active, simply go to your external profile page, say on Facebook, and copy the location. Then enter the URL into the new profile question.
Once you do, then on your Profile, the logo of Facebook will appear, and when someone clicks on it, that window into Facebook will open up right to your Profile (maybe requiring a Facebook log-in first). Once there, people can do a lot of Facebook stuff, while inside that window, still inside discgolfersR.us.
You can see an example, using Facebook, on my own 'My Bag' page
