Sean Johnson said "Still play with the disc, and will beat it into the ground or lose it before I hang it on the wall." Good call, Sean! If it went in once, it can go in again!!

About Me

My Professional Disc Golf Association Information My PDGA number is 2883 and my PDGA statistics can be found here. My PDGA rating is 975±, and my PDGA rating detail can be found here.

I started playing "frisbee" at about age 9 and remember having a Giant 3-foot Saucer Tosser! Keds Tennis Shoes even gave away a "flying saucer" shaped disc with each pair of shoes.

The first polehole I saw was in Bella Vista, AR about 1977. My first tournament experience was the 1979 North American Series overall event held at Penn Valley Park at the Liberty Memorial near downtown Kansas City, MO. I was 16 at the time and thought I was in heaven! Saw some great freestyle, learned about MTA and TRC, and watched the pros of the time throw a Wham-O 119g over 300 feet - they kept their discs in a cooler to keep them a little colder and thus more rigid. Disc Golf was contested by shooting at wire baskets on the ground. I began playing the Swope Park Folf course that summer using "old-school" Frisbee® Discs, and have never looked back.

After shooting with the "big boys" (I stand 5' 1") as they traveled, and I began traveling, I was lovingly (?) dubbed the "Compact Disc Player" by Gregg Hosfeld #1602, not long after he became the World Champ in 1987. John Houck #1688 says he was more than happy to give up the moniker, which I have kept to this day. I have had other nicknames (Little Man, Pin-High, and more)...

Favorite Quotes... some about sports, mostly about life...

» "Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn't work. Someone would leave - someone always leaves. Then we would have to say goodbye. I hate goodbyes. I know what I need... I need more hellos." -Snoopy of "Peanuts" written by Charles Schultz (taken from EscapePod episode 151).

» "Work" is a four-letter word. Luckily, "play", "disc", and "golf" are too!

What's in the Bag?

March 2008: I just bought a new bag, though it's not specifically for Disc Golf. I usually buy travel luggage or fishing "tackle" bags as they seem to have plenty of pockets and most are pretty waterproof. I have been playing since 1979, and have had only two or three smaller bags which were made for disc golf. All my old disc bags end up being carriers for extra discs.

This new bag is a "Reliance" fishing tackle bag (from K-Mart $29), very lightweight, easily holds 15+ discs with room f… Continue

How are you?
Your information was useful for the world championship of this year very much.
I thank you very much.
The town was clean and the course was a wonderful.
The people who can do it are enviable in such a course.
And BBQ was very delicious, too.
Thank you very much.
