I always look for locals when visiting new courses, usually at the first tee when I arrive. They know the layout and it is much like ball golf where a local can help guide you along. If you have to travel far it is a great idea to look up a local on here or at PDGA.com who can either meet up for a round or give you some valuable info for your trip. I found that very useful when I went back east for a visit and traveled upstate to a magnificent course in Warwick. The course designer responded with directions and info on the local pro-shop. Both turned out to be key.
