My first distance competition

I've been itching to compete in a distance competition and today I finally got my chance. While my throws weren't what I would call stellar, I was able to take second place. Now second place may not seem like much to brag about, but the only guy that beat me was Paul Ulibarri. I'm feeling pretty good about myself for the first time in a tournament.

First PDGA Tournament and rating

So I played in my first PDGA tourney (4th Annual Lemmon Drop) over the weekend, and talk about trial by fire. If you don't know the Lemmon Drop is played on top of Mt. Lemmon ski slopes, in Tucson, at 9,600 feet and heavily wooded.

I'm used to the fairly flat desert courses like Papago, Vista, and Emerald and this was quite different. This was the first time I've played outside of the valley and it took some getting used to. This was also my first time playing in the advanced division. My only… Continue

The roswell course looks fun ,we have a course here you would love, its Russian jack springs course .The shortest hole is just under 500 and the longest is over 900 its a nine hole course set on a muni ball golf course .some of the pics on my page are from there, its my home course. I recently won the doubles championship there in august and set the doubles score at 28 with a friend there in july .most of the guys that throw there on a weekly basis throw a average 400 ft drives and 250 there is considered a approach shot. we are working on integrating 9 more holes in the surrounding woods for a truly challenging course of open fairways for power and technical tight woods shots .

The transition from AZ to AK was slow ...5 yrs in ID then 3 yrs in MA then back to ID then to AK .i've been thinking lately of moving back to the lower 48 for the chance to play a bigger variety of courses, but i have things left to do here with the ADGA before i move on.my project next spring is a mountain course at a local ski hill .it should be a great course with elevation, trees, bears, moose and a view of cook inlet with the city of anchorage spread out below.i also have a dog that would hate az weather so i need to find a good climate that has good courses within driving distances.

ive been told you "drive for show ,putt for dough" mark ellis's putting program helped me a ton...and the longer you look at a putt the easier it is for doubt to creep in and bugger your putt...walk up visualize the putt and throw it .I play with a old timer that walks up, looks for about 2 seconds and snaps the disc in the basket .he does this from 100 ft out and jim harvey is considered the best putter in the state.I modeled my stance and snap from him and if i keep my brain out of it my putts fall in like they are meant to.remember "putt plastic in its place"

Your quest is a long and circuitus journey my son ,maybe never reaching an end.A given disc does different things when thrown by different people . Because of the various variables ie. snap, arm speed ect.
