THe feeling of an Ace. My god. It adrenalizes the game again.

It is a very special one because it happens to be on the course that I just installed on the campus where I teach High School English, Scotts Valley High School in Santa Cruz, CA. Hole #2. The hardest hole. Blind shot. With the President of the club there, Charles, and the young talent, Clayton. Charles just couldn't believe it. He had never seen an ace. Clayton saw his brother do it once, but he was super stoked.

LIke my last ace,… Continue

Insane

It wasn't the lowest score ever. It was just the series of events as I connected and reconnected with my true guiding force, some force outide of myself that when you stand on the tee, your body knows exactly what it's doing and the mind gets out of the way. Routine, yes. Good habits, etc. But, there's the unexplicable. And of course, that means I can't explain it.

So, it's hole #12 at DeLaveaga and I'm sitting 1 over. I need birdies and hole 12 is just that. Thumber thuds by the pin. Get the b… Continue

First Real Disc Golf Win

This last weekend I won the A-Tier Amateur Steady Ed Masters Cup in my town of residence, Santa Cruz, CA. I have won prestigious titles before in the team sport of soccer, but because of the inidividual nature of disc golf, this achievement was especially meaningful. I think I can safely say that I played some of the best consecutive golf rounds ever. The quality of play was mainly the result of this new sense of stillness and quietness that I found on the course. Much of this feeling was define… Continue

The Social Aspect

I used to think that I would play better when I played alone. Less distractions, more focus. But, I realized that without playing partners, the game is really a completely different one. So the better score would really be a score of a different game. I mean, how many tournaments group players one per hole? This isn't to say that playing alone doesn't have its place. I think it's a perfect opportunity to practice shots, discs, take 2-3 putts, etc. But when playing alone, I have decided that ther… Continue

Hey Broseph!,
I got your voice mail. I totally agree we need to play a round sometime. I just randomly signed up for the Minnesota Majestic. It's going down next weekend... so when I get back we need to hook up for sure. I leave S.C. on wed. and fly out from S.F. on early Thursday morning. From now, till then I will be out on the course sharpening some skills. Wish me luck! Yeah Bra!...

I totally agree... Disc Golf is a religion, since I've taken a long sabbatical from my church-going experience, I'd say De La has been my Sanctuary. The peaceful, quietness of the course (on weekdays, at least) and the magnitude of it's origin and existence, I'd have to say is sobering and awe-inspiring. I feel like I am in the presence of God whenever I am there and the course definitely brings me to my knees in humility every time I play. I've learned that pride always comes before a fall and that some things have to be believed to be seen. He who bows down will be lifted up, and I believe this truly applies to your great victory @ the Am Master's a couple of weeks ago. You gave the credit where credit was due, De la and it's pupil's. You are obviously an excellent learner, which in turn makes you an EXTRA-ordinary Teacher, I'm sure. I know that I hardly know you, but from you, I've learned a lot. Thanks 4 always being on duty. You are a Winner and I'm proud to know you.

Hi Jamie,

I just finished reading your blogs and I wanted to let you know I really enjoyed them. You have a way with words...I suppose that's why you are an English teacher! I look forward to future posts.

NIce responses. I like the one about your game letting you know when you should be mowing the lawn instead.

Jamie,
Look forward to the responses you are going to get. I will put in my two cents as well. My wife and I talked about our conversation yesterday. We both agreed that the key is going to be balance, but easier said than done right.

Hey Jamie!,
Congratulations on the mammoth win in the Master's Cup! I couldn't think of anyone more deserving of the win. All that hard work paid off. You smoked that field! Wow! And finally I get to play with you where you truly belong... In the Pro division! Congrats again broseph! That is the epitome of graduation.
