Stumptown Winter Series Final @ Milo

Well I took part in my first official tournament last Sunday at Milo, in Estacada, OR. It is normally a 27 hole course, but for tournaments they make it into a 36 hole course. My first round was 85 on the west side of the course, and 82 on the east side. Both the east and the west courses were a par 60.

throwing low with a sidearm means you are keeping your throwing shoulder fairly low (whether you are leaning or simply keeping the arm low) which in turn is going to keep your elbow close to your body (this is key to good snap/release). folks that flare their elbow typically have poor releases, causing the flutter effect.

The best forehand disc depends on what works for you. Everyone is different and where your game is now is different than where it likely will be in the future. Most players throw a more overstable disc forehand than they would backhand but that is not an absolute rule, either.

I prefer flat top (not domey), wide rimmed, overstable drivers in candy plastic (Z), so I throw Crushes and Flashes primarily. Try a variety of discs. Throw them flat and hard and see what they do. Keep in mind that a disc which is too overstable today may be perfect for you next year as you develop grater snap and arm speed.

If I could see you throw a few shots in person it would be easy to make recommendations but over the internet I can only guess. Generally the forehand is very difficult to master and takes lots of practice. On the other hand it gives lots of power with little effort so it is worth the time to make it work. Good luck.
