No, the WIzard is a great putter, but the consistency of Gateway's plastic is hit and miss. If you really want a consistent set of Wizards (or any other of thier discs), call the good people at the Gateway factory; if you tell them what…

I love my Keens, but they're not cheap. Like you, I tear up my right toe on my forehand shots--therefore I needed a really heavy-duty toe guard. So I went with an expensive pair of Keen-Dry shoes (don't remember the model name). 18 months…

P90X does everything I need to keep my body up-to-par (so to speak), but I find yoga to be the most beneficial part of the program when it comes to disc golf--it stretches and elongates your fast twitch muscle fibers and allows for a larger range of…

They are used that way. The ratings for players in a region who have gotten a PDGA number but haven't joined yet or are not current are also sent to the TDs prior to events to help them catch potential baggers.

Could the ratings be used to keep non PDGA members from sandbagging and playing in lower divisions than where they should be?

My local club, NUDGA the Northern Utah Disc Golf Association, is over 200 members strong, but maybe only 15-20 are current PDGA members.  This idea could really boost the PDGA membership in my area. We hold 3-4 PDGA sanctioned events each year.…

The City of Fort Collins is planning to downsize this great course from 18 holes to 9 holes--help us preserve the integrity of the full layout.http://www.change.org/petitions/preserve-the-18-hole-disc-golf-course-at-edora-park-in-fort-collins-coThank you!See More

Everyone pays the $1. You only pay it each week you attend unless for some reason the league is one of the rare "pay in advance" leagues. Remember there's no added nonmember fee and cumulative fees are less than what either…

Will everybody in the league be forced to pay $1 or will it be optional? If it is optional, will the ones who want to do it be forced to make a 12 week commitment ($12)?

My Winning Essay for Marshall Street Disc Golf

It won me a $25 gift certificate!

Stop. Close your eyes. Imagine. You’re standing on a hill, surrounded by whispering leaves and swaying aspens while accompanied by two of your closest friends or perhaps your spouse and children. Three hundred feet away stands a dazzling yellow monolith glimmering in the sunlight; light bouncing from its stainless steel chains. You hold a single round object—it reminds… Continue

A good start to the day

I went out to play an early 12 holes this morning at 5:30, as I do everyday before work and had a tremendous day.

Seven down, bogey free through on 12 holes with an ace--my second this in a month after a 6 year drought--not bad work for 5:30 in the morning.

Plan on 36 more this afternoon--hope to duplicate the effort.

The last two courses of the Vacation, The end of the Travel Blog

I finished my vacation with two different courses, making it a total of seven Colorado courses over the span of seven days. But more on the courses later. I would first like to address the last two courses I played.

The first was Ghost Town Country Club and Disc Golf Sanctuary. A private course, it came highly recommended...but you won't be recommended to play it by this author. The course offered an atmosphere and uniqueness unmatched in my 10 years of playing disc golf. It is built… Continue

An Ace in the Face of Adversity: Travel Blog, Day Four, June 17

The day began with disappointment.

We journeyed the short distance to Winter Park Resort to play their 10,000 foot course in the mid morning. We were prepared to hike the mountain to play (we're too cheap to pay $15 bucks per person to ride the life, and we needed the exercise). As we approached the staff running the lift to get a course map, we find out that the course is closed for redesign until July--that really sucked--I was looking forward to that course. The course is being… Continue

Pine Beetles, a Dilapidated Forest, and Lots of Disc Golfers: Travel Blog, Day Three, June 16

Trudging down the perilous Berthoud Pass from Winter Park, we embarked upon a day in the Frisco/Dillon/Silverthorne area; the Gateway to Summit County, Colorado. Our destination was Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area Disc Golf Course, consistently rated one the best courses in the state. It was our chance to test the theory.

We got there around 10 a.m., and by the time we got finished we were glad we didn't wait to get on any longer. The course began with very little fanfare--it was… Continue

Hey Ryan,

Sorry for my delay...I didn't see your comment until just now. Actually, I am thinking about playing in the Turkey Toss. I still need to talk to my family of DGers that live in STL to see if they're interested and work out logistics. I'm probably at about 75% or so as of now. If I don't need to go somewhere straight from JB I'll definitely carpool. I will let you know as soon as I can about that.

Either way, I'm also hoping to play Lindenwood sometime, so let me know when you plan to go out there. And I may try to sneak out to Quail or Lindenwood on Thanksgiving morning for a quick round in case that interests you.

Anyway, we'll get it figured out and I look forward to meeting you in STL.

Peace,

Steve

I went to Marquette. But, I'll be staying out in the St. Charles area as well. I'd be down to play any of those courses--I haven't been out to Lindenwood's course yet, I've heard mixed reviews.. If you're out in the area, you should also check out Quail Ridge in Wentzville.

All this talk is making me wish I was out on the course throwing right now!

hey ryan, just a quick question about your 8x aviar. would you consider it similiar to the 10x aviar? i know the 10x aviars are stiffer and the plastic is glossier compared to the 12x's, just wondering how the 8x's stack up? thanks, stephen
