I don't know anything about Louisiana law so I'm not the right person to answer this question. On a more general level, I have never heard of any disc golf tournament (or even golfers) who have been criminally charged under gambling statutes.
Likely there are numerous states where a technical reading of the laws could theoretically lead to charges, depending on the specific facts and tournament formats. There are probably ways to avoid even the appearance law violations by structuring tournaments in particular ways or adding charity components.
Of course, we and most of the rest of the population recognize that gambling is wagering on uncertain events while a disc golf tournament is a contest of skill. Tournaments are common at golf courses, country clubs, bowling alleys, dart leagues, softball fields, etc. and they don't get charged with violations because they are contests of skill, not gambling.
If anyone is threatening to turn in a tournament for gambling, that threat might rise to the level of extortion, likely a crime in most places.
dont know if you remember me, but we met @ southern nationals in la. You and your son joined us (skypilots) for team golf after the tournament. You gave me a purple super puppy that went imediately in the bag! Wondered how you fared thru the hurricane after that. Good to see your name again, hope all is well. fast mac mckinney #2955
If we bribe you maybe you can keep Trevor down there for a few months?

The conference went well and we had the best presentation out of the bunch. The job search is slow but somewhat promising. We'll see how that turns out. Thanks again for everything. I really enjoyed the course. I just played the Daytona Open this past weekend and took 2nd in the intermediate division. So you know I'll be playing for a long time to come. Thanks again for your help in NO!
