keep it simple...

one of the biggest mistakes most am golfers make is carrying alot more discs than they need. i was guilty of the same when i was 2 or 3 years in... all it did 4 me was confuse the hell outta me and made me second guess my shot and disc selection... the only time i think it wise 2 carry alot of discs is when traveling 2 unfamiliar courses. and in those situations u usually can see the shot and ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR FIRST INSTINCT!!!!!!!!! and keep it simple ask yourself "do i really need 15… Continue

Break the slump!

After a few months of below average playing I think I have come out of the rut! I've been playing for about 3years now and remember the days when I couldn't get a Dragon to go 100ft. Since those days, my putting has been spot on and my drives on average were over 350ft.

Until, that is, about 3mo. ago. Things were going downhill fast. Griplock, wormburners, and taco were words in my vocabulary with just about every game I played. My timing was off, nosedown putts going straight in the dirt… Continue

lots of birdies

but i had three circle 4 and 2 regular bogeys... still shot a five down and it was a great round lot's of fun with my homie zagone.. and i putted 2 day in compliance with my confidence building routine.. felt good playing with another open player and receiving some constructive criticism... remember negative thoughts breed negative results...

putting routine

well i started my putting routine 2 day. as a seasoned vet i feel confident that this will get me back into a confident state of mind. i feel a lil anxious and wish i were farther along than i was as far as time put in is concerned. i have a strong putting game already but i see room 4 a lot of improvement. i have felt my confidence slipping the last few tournaments even though i won and finished near the top still in the cash. but had i made my putts for birdie i would have won the open as… Continue

2009 Mushroom Manor Mini Disc Golf Moments

I called Merrill Det. on the phone and asked him if he was wasting time? We say that when we're not really doing anything and we're also not playing mini golf. He said he'd be over in a half an hour. Let me make this short and sweet, this is what was so cool about mini tonight. It was nature night man! Awesome activity at the Manor. Det and I were starting the back 9 of the Stretch R Out course when Det pointed out the huge big Grey Horned Owl sitting in my sycomore tree on hole six. At that… Continue

Thunderbird Paseo Park, Glendale AZ

Played Thunderbird yesterday a course I had played about 18 months ago and haven't played since. It was greatly encouraging to see the difference in my score (11 strokes) since the last time I played it.

Thunderbird is in a largely dry wash basin so it's very open and many of the holes are less than 300 feet. Even with little terrain and natural obstacles to work with the course designers did a good job making it a challenge. Many of the baskets are placed on either side of the wash… Continue

Flagstaff in January

I was in Flagstaff a week or so ago and threw my first round in the snow. It wasn't long before I was singing the "Wish I had a sidearm blues."

Thorpe Park is a great course I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area. I definitely want to go back in better weather. If you look at the pics I posted you can see somehow the tee boxes were largely clear. I dunno tee box elves? Whatever caused the tee boxes to be clear for the… Continue

Aces. Always a witness, never an acer.

Why is it I have signed more "Ace Discs" then a freaking tour pro. I am so sick of going out to my home course and watching people I never see out there ace the holes I have been shooting at 3 or 4 rounds a day, 3 times a week for two months. Not really its cool, just cant help feeling like "always a brides maid, never a bride", however that saying goes.

Finally.

I found it, the disc I have been looking for. A star 150g Valk. I found it at Dunhams of all places. It's white, which wouldn't be my first choice, but I will learn to deal with it. Also, had a nice little chat with Scott from Red Line Disc Golf. He has a lot of fun and exciting plans for this summer, be sure to check him and his apparel business out.

**We Will Not Be Swayed**

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

-Langston Hughes

This poem produces many reactions from me. I gather that, if one does not have any aspirations in life, then there is little purpose to it. I love Disc Golf more for the possibilty of a very bright future. I, like most people, started playing Disc Golf for the shear… Continue

2008-9 Winter Update

It's a long, cold winter in the Great Lakes area, but I think I'll come out of it better than ever.

After eight long years, I should finally get my driver's liscence back in a month or so. DON'T ASK! It's just too long a story.

ANYHEW, I've known this day was coming for a while so to get ready I have been conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. Lifting weights and running, a little putting in the basement as well since my hands go numb in about a minute outside. I've actually lost… Continue

Holmes Park - Even Par the Hard Way

I played 9 holes at Holmes today and it was an odd round. I threw an even par, but I had three birdies, three pars, and three bogeys. I birdied 2,3, and 5, parred 1, 7, and 9, while I bogeyed 4, 6, and 8. My putting is still pretty good while my tee shots are on and off.

There was a group of 5 guys playing around me. It looked like they were playing some Safari golf. I heard them coming in to #1 when I teed off at 2. Then I saw them teeing off from the 2nd basket to the 7th while I… Continue

Thanks and Peace to all

(Republished with a picture of the peace flags for those who asked. Woo hoo, I finally figured out how to put a picture up. If you look carefully, too, you can see our hanging basket on our personal course in the lower right hand corner out in the snow!)

Once in a while, not very often, we get the Christmas present that completely knocks our socks off, takes our breath away, catches us totally unaware and causes us to stutter, “How…how…how did she know?” I got one of those presents… Continue

Linc, thanks for the blog

I had a great time. I'm glad you, M.D.(The Doctor of Discology), and Tobin could make it. I was really glad to see you gave "Little Juddy" recognition for his unique style of driving, the "THUMBIE"!!! He taught me that one. Wish I threw it as well as him. I'm really proud of him.I'd like to think he's the best 12 yr old mini disc golfer in the world. Or at least one of the best. I want to make this the 4th thursday event. Donnie, if you're seeing this you are certainly welcome to join us. I'd… Continue

***DiscGenerates***

What is there to do about those who do not respect our game. Those who are out there just to see how many beers they can drink before falling on their face. I have come to grips that the game I love, for the most part, is at least 10-15% "fun" players. Those who use Disc Golf as an outlet for their stupidness. These few are giving the rest of us a bad name. By the rest of us I mean those who play as a profession, recreation or fitness. There are more players who care for the game than not. That… Continue

2009 Mini Disc Golf Moments

Pop's Twin Pines Disc Golf Course, par 56. This was the location of the last mini disc golf activity in Lancaster, PA. After the last couple weeks of ice box cold weather, Thursday night was a heat wave with temps in the low 40's. The temperature dropped quickly into the high 20's by the end of the round. Pop's Twin Pines DGC is situated on just a quarter of an acre in a mature neighborhood just outside the west side of town. The two pine trees are huge and reside on top of a hump in the… Continue
