La Mirada

So, the rain is coming down ever so lightly and we are getting ready to play at La Mirada. Supposedly there is no crowd and barely any rain. If anyone is in the area we will be there today playing at least a full round (front/back) and Luke will be feeding the ducks. The invite is open to whoever wants to venture through Buena Park. Talk to you later!

North Port Charlotte Regional Park

On Christmas Day 2007 - after having received a gift of three Champion plastic discs from Santa - the family & I went down to North Port to have Christmas dinner with my mom-in-law. So, I made a plan to hit the disc golf course that can be found down there. The kids went with - probably to avoid the boredom of hanging out at Grandma's - and we tackled the course.

The North Port Charlotte Regional Sports Complex disc golf course is rough-hewn and carved from some serious… Continue

N.E. Coachman Park

N.E .Coachman Park is probably less than a mile (as the Cro flies) from Cliff Stephen's, and the day I played Cliff I doubled up with this fun little park. The course winds through a relatively thin strip of pine trees and other local foliage, and the day I was there a rather swift-moving creek ran along the back side at holes #8 & #9. I'm also told that you can walk from hole #16 right over to Cliff, if you wanted to.

I made most of my throws with a… Continue

The Itch

Man it is getting to the end of February and the weather is still frigid here in Illinois. This winter has been very weird. Lots of snow, 45 one day and 3 the next. Hopefully it will be done soon. I need my discs to start flying the way the normally do..... half-way decent! The cold and high winds make my discs do some weird things, including ending up behind my lie 3 times in a row!!! Yes 35 MPH winds and ice sheets will do that to you. The first tourney is coming up in a few weeks and I am… Continue

My Blog -- As if I Care!

I'm going to post on days I work on dyed discs. This is my disc dying blog. But it is more of a journal.

On my lunch today I mailed out the San Fran discs and stopped by the sticker lady. At the post office I could not understand a thing the postal lady was saying. She was soft spoken and had a Caribean accent. So I said, "Kelsey, translate for me. [then, turning to the postal lady,] I've recently lost a lot of my hearing, but my daughter knows how loud to shout." So that was… Continue

Gower Not Timmons

We went to Timmons to play our regular Tuesday/Thursday round and found that the city has removed the 15th and 16th baskets and closed the fairways. Unless the city straightens out the course I am done with it. The city has modified the course 4 times so that the guy up the hill can annex 4 acres of park property and consider it his own. A judge has ordered him to stop and desist with his harassment of disc golfers and he has been arrested for shooting his pellet gun at disc golfers. Unless the… Continue

One karmatic experience

It all starts out with trading my Wednesday shift for Abrahams Monday shift so he can get through his clinical and a job interview, I also get to see Shaq play for the SUNS and go to ultimate practice if the weather turns around. So I work the Monday shift and at the end of the night I take Shannon home, we talk for about a half hour (keep in mind I have a test on Tuesday so I’m keeping track of the time since I still need to finish studying). While there I turn my headlights out so not to wake… Continue

How to fly across the world... and ruin you're discs.

Hey Zeke,

Touched down at Heathrow this arvo, feeling kinda like wookie without a shower. All went smooth though which is good. Going to hit the sack now before the sack hits me.

The only downside though, if you want to know the best way to screw up you discs, follow these simple steps...

1. Get a bunch of you're favourite discs.

2. Pack them in your backpack and check them in at Malaysian Airlines.

3. Let some random airport workers throw you're… Continue

Sweet ACE! at Lakewood

The promise of sunny weather brought 25 golfers to Lakewood for the Feb. Acepot. The day started out chilly but even so you could tell it was going to turn out to be a beautiful day. The $365 in the ace kitty probably encouraged players to show up as well! There was a nice field of 15 Pros, 9 Ams and 1 woman. I decided to run a straight 27 hole format instead of the traditional two rounds of 18. We play the regular 18 hole course and then add holes 1, 2, 3, 5 short, 6, old #11, 12, 17 & 18.… Continue

Move Up!!! Bagger!!!

If you haven't heard this phrase, then you either have some work to do or you aren't playing with the right people LOL.

When I started playing in Feb of 2006 I did a lot of watching and reading about the game so that I understood things well before really getting serious about it. I learned all the grips that interested me and started working on the throws that would bring my game to a place I was comfortable being. As anyone, I started in the novice catagory and by May I entered my first… Continue

Practiced Sidearms today

I really haven't practiced sidearms much. I threw a lot today in an open field at Old Settlers. They'll never be as strong as the backhand but I'm getting close on some throws.

My Blog -- As if you care

My brother Jon said I needed to start hanging out here because PDGA.com is yesterday and this is tomorrow. Jon and I run the Illinois Open Series with Brett Comincioli and Discontinuum and our wives and other helper people. I dye discs. I used to use glowfoto for stuff like this. I'll probably use them both for awhile, but this is already proving to be more useful.

Last December I did a lot of dye work for a lot of people. Cool stuff. Then I got really sick in January and lost half… Continue

British Open at Quarry Park:- May 31 - June 1

I'm excited to tell you all that my course, Quarry Park, is going to host the 30th British Open on May 31 to June 1. This is a PDGA Eurotour event with €2000 payout expected (that's nearly $3000)

The course is being upgraded with new signage and it will have astro-turf tee pads on all holes. We are also borrowing some land on the other side of the river, so that we can have some longer holes. Quarry Park is a purpose built disc golf course, set in 15 acres of beautiful countryside on… Continue

Holmes Park with Big WInd

I stopped by Holmes this morning coming back from seeing Wayne's mother and L.C. at the North Greenville Long Care Facility. I didn't realize that the wind was howling until I got out to play. I threw a sidearm on #1 that was beyond the basket. I normally would be 40 to 60 feet short of the basket there. I had a strong look at a birdie there but I was locked against a tree and had to straddle putt in a howling cross wind from about 20 feet. It hit the left side of the chains and fell out. #2… Continue

Disc Golf for Poland?

This morning I hosted a visit from 17 rural development delgates from Poland. They played 12 holes, asked loads of questions, took loads of photos and video and liked what they saw. Seems like they are interested in installing a course, because they asked if I would come to Poland when they opened it. Fingers crossed!

First Chilly Dog Experience

Saturday I played in my first Minnesota event, the Chilly Dog Winter League at Kaposia Park (one of the three courses for the MN Majestic NT event May 29-Jun 1). This was my first round at Kaposia. It's a tough course to play blind. For those not familiar with the Chilly Dog, it's a singles league with winter rules (no penalty strokes) and it is ran by Matt Koerner. Timmy Gill of Par 72 (and TD of MN Majestic) assists with the merch payouts from his mobile disc shop. My entry was $6 and I was… Continue

Loose change...

The year was 2000 and the first ever Amateur-AND-Professional Disc Golf Championship was being held in the Ann Arbor area of Michigan. During such events, there are many various contests and prize giveaways for contestants and spectators alike, and this was no exception. One such event had a basket to giveaway and, for only $1 per shot, persons making an est. 90' putt would qualify for a later, final shoot out for the prize.

At that time, Hudson Mills had added another 24 hole course… Continue

Expo Park in the MUDD!! :O, 02/16/08

Well we finally got to get a chance to play on a course up towards Denver, it's the Expo Park DG course located in Aurora, CO. A really nice course in a very pretty park setting but it's got a lot shorter holes and very few trees, compared to our home course, (Widefield Park DG). How else would I get a score in the, 60's (64, the best I've ever done at a DG course) and a sweet birdie on Hole #10, YEA!!! :)

It's got two deep and quite large ponds… Continue
