Scotch Mist Saturday

Got the call to go out to ' Course Chez Daryl ' a farm course on 40 acres. Daryl the owner, Stu and I went at it playing for Bagtags with Daryl giving us each a stroke for home course advantage. These youngs guys thought they were going to beat up on me but I showed them. When I hit the 200' putt on 10 hole they knew something was up. It was wet and soggy with snow lying around but I was putting great. I beat Daryl by 5 and Stu by 4. I retained my 3 tag and Stu gained 7 and Daryl down to 9.…

Ice Bowl Today!

I'm heading out to play in my local clubs Ice Bowl today, my very first Ice Bowl!. The temperature is supposed to be near 60F so I think the only ice there will be keeping the RC cold. The is the 1st event of the 2008 RC Cola Moon Pie Series so there will be plenty of RC and Moon Pies!

They split the event onto two courses. The regular course and a temp course set up near a lake. The temp course is mostly wide open and the regular course is heavily wooded so it is a nice…

My first MDGO final...

In 1999 I traveled with two buddies, John and Guido, to Ludington, Michigan to play in my first ever Michigan Disc Golf Organization (MDGO) finals. We had driven up early, planning on playing in the "Mace Man" doubles event that (Friday) afternoon. First, however, I found Lake Michigan and relaxed for a while after a long drive.

Anyway, we arrived in time to warm up and pay $10 to play in the doubles event. If I had to guess, I'd say that there were 20-24 players (10-12 teams) in… Continue

The trees have ears...

In the summer of 1997 I lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan, though I certainly spent enough time at Coldbrook disc golf course to consider it as my home away from home. One day, having played 3 consecutive rounds alone, I sat in the grass besides the tee pad for hole #1 and rested, searching for the energy to continue into a forth and final round. As I waited and watched a couple of groups go out before me, two teenagers stepped up to throw.

Now, if you've never played Coldbrook before,… Continue

fun times

WIntertime Open at Oak Grove, 2/9-2/10. The next couple months are jam packed with disc golf in So Cal and it starts at the beginning, OG. Monthlies around San Diego, an Ice Bowl at the newest So Cal course, Montiel Park in San Marcos (Ace runs galore!), a bit of travelling to The Memorial and then back for the El Dorado Open, Sylmar (maybe), EIEIO, and Huntington Beach. And now Yucaipa thrown in the middle there somewhere. One might wonder if there is anything to life besides disc golf. There… Continue

Jefferson City's 1st Ice Bowl (Missouri)

Well this Saturday is the Jeff City club's 1st annual Ice Bowl and I'm super excited about it!!!

Jan 26th was Columbia's and we cranked in a bunch of food as well as close to 75 peeps from the area and had a Blast. It started off a bit chilly but there was no snow. The harsh element was the wind, gusting between 20 and 30 mph. It made for some pretty unsure putts. I finished 4th in my division while KK finished 3rd in her's.

Lost and found...

The year was 1998 and a buddy and I were walking toward our drives on hole #1 at Vista Del Camino (Shelley Sharpe memorial) disc golf course in Scottsdale, Arizona. The pin setting that day was in a difficult spot, just beyond a Palo Verde tree near the canal waters-edge. Just then, we heard a voice calling from the #1 tee pad behind us, asking if he could throw. We waved him on and he launched a monster sidearm spike hyzer, parking the drive within 10' of the basket. As he approached, I… Continue

Timmons Park

Wow! Bill and Steve and I played Timmons tonight. I was +13 which is the worst that I have played Timmons in several years. My sidearm was awful and my putter tanked on me. But it was more a case of little things just eating me up. Everything that could happen did - roll aways, through the chains putts, and creek shots galore. Bill aced #13 tonight. That was the highlight of the round. I had three triple bogeys #5, 6, 18. On #5 my tee shot hit a tree on the left side of the fairway and hit four… Continue

Opening Day 2008

This saturday (February 9th) will be the Warwick Ice Bowl, and perhaps the first tournament that I play in 2008. I spent most of my time in 2007 off, not playing tournaments, and even though I have less time to disc golf, I am not ready to completely write playing tournaments out of my life. Warwick has brought me mixed results. I won the two day animals fest playing advanced, but haven't cashed in 2 events (one of which being the Skylands NT, and the other was my first pro tourney) playing…

More BoB

I have had a few people tell me that they enjoyed my blog with Bob Rotella's wisdom!! This was originally posted on my myspace.

Chapters 11-20

...I will be revealing no secrets by stating that good golf requires confidence. Without confidence, you can't trust your physical ability. You can't perform at your best.

...Negative thinking is almost 100 percent effective.

...By its nature, golf will try to sap your confidence. On every…

The Words of BoB Rotella

Rotellas Ten Commandments: (*adapted for Disc Golf)

I. Play to play great. Don't play not to play poorly.

II. Love the challenge of the day, whatever it may be.

III. Get out of results and get into process.

IV. Know that nothing will bother or upset you on the golf course, and you will be in a great state of mind for every shot.

V. Playing with a feeling that the outcome doesn't matter is almost always preferable to caring too much.

VI. Believe fully…

Snow days rule!

We were supposed to get out of school this year, for the first time ever, in may, but i think that an occasional snow day, even if it means extending the school year, is well needed.
I also got to sleep in until 10:30am this morning instead of waking up at 6:00am!

Golfers of South Florida Unite!

We have recently started this club in an effort to unite the disc golfers of South Florida. We live in the Sunshine state and yet it seems that the number of golfers are sparse compared to the clubs in other states! But I know we are all out there. We have a heck of a lot of great courses down here that offer a variety of challenges.....the only thing we lack is any true elevation challenges (if you have been to south Florida you can understand this.) But even so, our course designers have…

Orlando Barnett Park

We are heading to Orlando this weekend to try out a new park and maybe some new competition...I am hoping to be playing against more than just myself this week. The rumor is there is another chick (YAY) and I hopefully have convinced one of our local chicks to play! Can't wait! Wish us all luck!

Bonemans Long Strange Trip

If you're wondering ... I came up with the nickname "Boneman" because our hometown [Carbondale] is called "Bonedale" for short ... so, Boneman.

Having recently broken my leg playing disc golf, some say the nickname is more fitting now. I have to say that having been a climber for well over 30 years, I never broke a bone ... However, I have nearly died several times from other incidents.

I grew up in a small town in Missouri, just north of St. Louis [where I was born]. I lost my…
