Joel Viggers Memorial Ice Bowl 09' 2/7/09'

This was quite a great way to start 09's tourney season. First off a couple of our good friends Sam and Lauren Hefney came up from Huntsville so that fired me up more than anything. Sam and I decided that morning in honor of him coming up I would play in my first Advanced field and we would play together first round at the Sinks. The good karma paid off and we ended up getting to play the whole tourney together because after round 1 I was leading the field with -1 and Sam shot even. Whites to… Continue

Holmes After a Rough Night

I played a quick 9 holes at Holmes Park today. I threw no birdies, and bogey on #4, and a double bogey on #5. I woke up in the middle of the night and barfed my guts out. I'm not sure what brought that on (or up) but once it started it went on for a while. I didn't feel bad, but I woke up with a little catch in my throat. The next thing I knew, I was worshiping at the porcelain altar. I wretched so hard that I pulled a muscle in my back. I wondered if I would get in any kind of round today. I… Continue

Women in Disc Golf

I am using this blog to tell you a little about myself as i can't fit enough information in the little space they allow when inviting friends. This will hopefully help you accept me as a friend and understand who i am and why i asked you to accept my friendship offer.

For those of you who find this and haven't been invited as a friend of mine yet feel free to invite me to be your friend if you would like to. If you aren't aware of this you can only have 100 open friend requests at a time… Continue

Night Golf; What kind of lights are on your disc?

Super-bright LEDs are great but I find that taping these to a coin cell is problematic. Also it makes the disc under-stable. I would like to see a if anyone out there has found any innovation worth trying.

La Vie En Rose- Pre Blog

I am pretty excited to be heading to Suwanee Music Park this weekend. My wife and I go there for Magfest and Springfest, and it has become one of our favorite places to camp. We use to drive down from Michigan to attend these festivals. My first year attending, my friend Pete and I were using the old Renasiance Festival grounds to use as an object course and we talked about how perfect the place would be for a disc golf course.

Years later, my good friend from Michigan, Denny Ritner,… Continue

New Shoes

Seeing as it is ridiculously warm outside this week and the courses are ridiculously swampy, I decided to invest in some new shoes. They are nike bandolier's which are mid level hiking shoes that have a Gortex coating on them, they are very light and have good traction. So far they have kept my feet very dry from all the puddles I keep stepping in off the tee pads in mt. pleasant, especially since those pads are the worst I have ever played on. Anyways, the round I played was pretty fun,… Continue

New Personal Best Distance!

I hit a new personal best distance milestone 2/10/2009. I had 7 Orcs out in the field (I’ll resist the cheesy Lord of The Rings reference) and by the end of the day I had each one of them consistently going past 300’. Up till now I could only hit it occasionally and the furthest one on the day was approximately 347’.

Pretty stoked at the moment! :)

BLOG #2: I'm No Grammar Nazi...

Hello, faithful readers (yeah, right...). As the title of my blog suggests, I do not see myself as a grammar nazi. I do, however, take time and effort to ensure that the literature I post is, at least, mostly free of grammatical error. I find that anything written in this manner is not only more easily legible, but more easily understood. It is difficult, if not impossible, to… Continue

2009 Mushroom Manor Mini Disc Golf Moments

Febuary 11th and 68 degrees in Pennsylvania! Awesome! Merrill and Juddy Crink were actually wearing shorts and t-shirts. We were playing the Stretch R Out format, par 60 at Mushroom Manor Mini Disc GC in Lancaster. Merrill started his round with three O.B.s in a row! That really sucks but just goes to show that "Anything can happen at the Manor." even for the best mini player I know. When we got to the tee of hole 5 Merrrill was at the back of the card throwing last. I threw a… Continue

JP Moseley Ice Bowl Post tourney - problems in personal life.

So, this has been one of the best and worse weeks of my life.

First the good news:

I ran my first tournament: the JP Moseley Ice Bowl. Aside from the Pizza guy being late, it ran better and faster than expected. It was a ton of fun and I have had nothing but rave reviews from the players so far. I added an island green to the course and we (locals) have decided to make it a permanent addition to the course. I definately toughened up the course and proved what it could be.… Continue

Added an Audio Newsletter (5 minutes) to our disc golf club Early Birds Disc Golf

I was fooling around in Garage Band and I decided to put out a newletter for our disc golf club.

It's an experiment. Any other groups do an audio podcast? This one is only 5 minutes long, I wanted to see if any of our members actually listen to it before I went all out.

Hudson Mills

It'd be nice if they shoveled the tee pads especially on a record high snow-melt day, since we are paying 50$ for the privilege of playing there...

I played 42 holes out there today- 24 Blues (66) and 18 Yellow (48, played w/ Dr. Steve- 49). It appeared no one had even played the Blue tees in weeks, let alone shovel, so I grabbed the nearby crappy plastic one and did them all as best as I could w/ it. They should be clear enough to play by… Continue

Wanting to start a women's league/ women's play days or something of the like

SO I need to run to school and work and such for the day, but wanted to put this post out there quick. I will add to it tonight or tomorrrow, so check back then.

I have been toying with the idea of running a women's league or play day for a long time. I want to start it up this spring say- April or May- as soon as I am done with my internship. I want to see more women in the sport (As most of you do), and Minnesota is a prime state for disc golf (especially the Twin Cities Metro… Continue

LakeWood Flyer FreeStyle

Shot a mid day round today at LakeWood Laural. At the Laural there is a 27 hole set up with 9 placed baskets. The first nine are relitive short tech shots. There is no mando disc but the flyer is the best because of its "flippyness". The second nine or "Alternates" are a near identical run but 10 to 20 feet further away. Being that there is a third set of nine, we call them safaris. A long and difficult shot through, around, over, and mostly into trees. {:o/

So the lay out is mostly… Continue

Barnett Park Championships-Orlando Florida-Final Recap

First class event all the way! Once again, TD Bob Lewis put on another great event. 2 great courses, great players, great gallery, and great weather, make the Barnett Park Championships a must attend event in February. 130+ players attended the event this year. I did not stick around to get the final scores but the Open division went down like this.

Eric McCabe, Ken Climo, John E.McCray and Rudy Vela-Cantu make the final 9. Eric has a 2 stoke lead over Climo, and 4 over John and Rudy.… Continue

Barnett Park Championship-Orlando Florida

Stay tuned for updated scores in all fields. Should be a great Mens Open field with Eric McCabe sneaking into Florida to take on some of the Florida big guns like Climo, McCray, Gurthie, and Rudy V. Pam and Sandy have Liz Lopez in the field, and should be a very interesting weekend, heading into the La Vie en Rose at Suwanee. I will post some score updates and pictures as soon as I get home each day. If you have never made it to Florida for this tourney, think about it next year. Great weather,… Continue
