Huntsville, AL

I'm back from my journey to Huntsville, AL. It was a busy 5 days but worth every early morning :) The Brahan Springs course was where the tournament was held. It's got a few elevation changes and trees. Less trees than Northwoods in Morton, IL but plenty to bounce off of :)

Back to the tourney....I was pleased with my first round...62 on 18 holes :) :) Then I took a look at the score port....I had the lead by 1 stroke!! The second round didn't have as many deuces but it felt ok. I… Continue

Obsessed?

So my wife has decided that I am officially obsessed with this game, I couldn't agree more. My day is usually spent trying to figure out a way to leave work so I can play, or thinking about putting...(when I putt I swear the basket shrinks). Luckily for me, my wife Caren, plays with me. We both recently joined our local club Rocket City Chain Gang. I hope to see some of you on the course...I'm the guy yelling @ trees.

New Course in Norcal

Thanks to the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department, we have a new disc golf course under construction at Finnon Lake. It is ten miles north of Placerville, just off the intersection of Mosquito Road and Rock Creek Road. The route is tight with cliffhanger hairpin turns. Extreme sobriety is suggested for the drive. Once you see the Rock Creek Cafe, you are there!

Project manager, Chris Dillender came up with the brainstorm of adding the disc golf course to inhance the lake, that will include… Continue

A More Complete Game

I've been working on three new shots for me:

A hyzer flip

An anhyzer flex

a sidearm, relatively new so improving

I went to Old Setttlers yesterday for a little field time and see which discs work best for me. The Sidewinder has been a really nice disc. I like it when it's flown flat and I can get it to go fast enough to go right at the end of it's flight on a standard backhand throw. It turns out that this understable disc is perfect for the hyzer flip. Sometimes I put… Continue

Rocket City Amateur Open @ Brahan Springs in Huntsville AL, 3/22/08

They say you have to loose one to know how to win one. Well I defiantly did that this weekend. Cilecia and I were really looking forward to going down to the RCAO this weekend because first off The RC tourney is Run by my buddies Danny Newton and Chris Jaskolka. They run a first class event and two rounds @ Brahan I was excited. Brahan is a tight wooded course a lot like our Sinks. Pretty much all holes are birdie able but there are Majestic pines covering this park so if you get off course you… Continue

Bite Shoes Bite, That is all

I've had two pairs of Bite Disc Golf shoes since the fall. The reinforced toes are not reinforced enough. I know, I shouldn't have bought a second pair. The shoes are good in theory. Maybe with a little shoe glue or some electrical tape wrapped around my right foot...

Wish Upon A Fallin' Star

It seemed like an eternity since we were together. She really brought out the best in me. Like a good woman, she was always by my side. It was a wonderful five long months. She was a little bigger than what i was used to. I hate to sound shallow, but I really prefer my gals around a 169. This beauty was a 175 bruiser of a disc. Some would say she was a little rough around the edges, others warned she was very overstable, but we fell in love anyway. I saw her for the first time today. After a… Continue

EIEIO is on the horizon!

Well one of my favorite events is on the horizon. I am looking forward to this event this year as I do every year. Rhett and Emerald Isle put on a great event and it is always a pleasure to play! Hopefully I play better then I did during the EI Bag Tag Challenge. With smart play I hope to be in the mix. The Advanced division is always great compitition and with a couple of the players coming off of wins, it looks to be a slug fest! Good luck to everyone.

Gower Park - Poured Pads

I played only 9 holes at Gower today. Cooper was busy and wasn't there and I got a message from him and he won't be playing for quite a while. He is busy with a doctor's appointment, Thursday he has a golf tournament, then he's going on leave and will go fishing. Steve has always been busy with golf, fishing, hunting, and bowling, so squeezing in disc golf will always be a challenge.

Bill wasn't there either. We played last Tuesday and he was very sore from moving furniture. He was… Continue

Winter Continues

10 more inches of snow last Thursday, and the Ashford Pines remains in its nearly unplayable state that it has been in since the second week of December. Almost 4 months of near dormancy, continuous substantial snow depth the whole time. Its been an unbelievable winter. Been able to start some chainsaw work the last couple of weeks, but the snow depth still makes it hard to drag the branches, boughs and the like. The snow is also too deep for burning brush piles, so progress on that front is… Continue

Improvement

So I'm gonna start this off by saying that I have been in a rut for the last month, but think I may have finally found my way out of that rut. I've been practicing a ton the last few months and the last few months of last year and found myself improving immensely, last year that is. But this year I felt like I was falling off track, even with practicing nearly every day around 3 hours a day. I came to the conclusion that this was happening because of my mental side of the game and also my… Continue

I did it

Dear Blog!

I did it today! I threw my new champion Destroyer for the first time. To be honest, I can see not much difference between the champion Wraith and the Destroyer at this early stage of testing. But I have to admit that I'm not able to throw the discs at full speed yet. Every throw hurts a bit due to my injured rib, but I'm very happy that I'm able to throw at all. We played a nice practice round using two mobile baskets. And it was very funny although the weather was still cold… Continue

Golfing in snow

Finally - snow in Denmark... so out we went for a quick round of disc golf in the snow.

Always fun to throw a white disc round the corner, when all is white and fluffy ;O)

Progress Report 3/24/08

Well, I think you can expect these progress reports to start coming a little more often ... and I think they might actually have a little more to do with PLAYING disc golf ... rather than thinking about playing disc golf.

The bag of RED discs was out in full force this weekend. Saturday 3/22 I drove over to Palisade CO to catch a group of GVDGC members playing tags. I was a little late, but caught up with the group playing #10. Joined in on #11. Guess I was being pretty… Continue
